Luann – “Oh my goodness, and silly Me! Looks like I only cooked enough stew for one! I’m Sorry Bernice, but I’m afraid you’ll have to eat supper over at your folk’s place tonight!”
Bernice – “Oh no worries, Luann. Jack invited me to his place for wine and a candle light dinner. So, I’ll see you in the morning.”
So Luann have you gotten your friend to face her fear, will we find out what is her fear? The games afoot one hopes. I think it goes back to the relationship of the adoptive parents and Ben’s parents, which somehow Bernice feels, inappropriately, might be her fault. Just a supposition though.
Look how easy that way. All you had to do was push a little bit and not let her prevaricate. If Luann had done this around the time if that fishy tail we would have been spared three dire weeks of filler and could have moved to something else. Or has filler become the new norm and nothing new, interesting or exciting will ever happen again in PittS?
These are 20 years old young ladies. Luann always has been drab but Bernice dresses more classical, timeless. She dresses conservatively. Of course there were rare times when GnK dressed up Luann nice and pretty but by large, she’s a drab person and always been. Bets and Tiff and Tara all dress better. Tiff dresses like a fashionista, Bets a bit trendy and Tara grungy urbanite, Bernice classical and Luann – no style. Scratch that – simple. Gunther – nerdy, Les – slick, Jack -leisurewear, Nils – grungy/gothic, Steff and her boyfriend (I forgot his name) – both preppy, Dez – hippy/earthy, Toni – sort of similar to Luann – not stylish. Perhaps soccer mom type. Brad – jock casual.
GO LUANN!!!! Bernice is out of excuses. It’s finally time for a serious talk between a part time (and really loved by the kids) kindergarten teacher and a (I’m not sure how good she is) psychologist student. Finally she will facing the problem and (hopefully) find a solition. I’m so happy!!!!! But in Bernice defense, take care of Monstro sounds really challenging. That gold fish follow her even in her dreams!
I believe this is the first time Luann has applied the same maturity she showed in proctoring Fay to an adult; i.e., Bernice. So far the intervention appears to be succeeding. Let’s hope this approach works better than Jacks.
Oh, Mordy…you naughty boy. Wait. Now, why do I simply ASSUME you’re male? Have you ever actually SAID so? Yes, your avatar seems to be male (you know, the beard and all), but that could be misleading. I had to put my late husband’s photo (see to the left) on my FB page to keep the idiot guys from hitting on me playing Words with Friends. And, trust me, I am no longer a spring chicken.
Mordy will just LOVE this…. Ben York, on his way to taking his kids to the park, goes for a walk and meets the neighbors. They’re all delighted to meet him and his kids, especially this curly-haired, gregarious, motherly woman, who INSISTS on giving the children her home-baked cookies. She invites them to stay and talk. As Ben sits down in the kitchen, watching the kids run around in the yard, his eyes go towards The Gulag. The woman explains that her husband had that ADU built to house her son and his nephew, so that the boys have a permanent place to stay and nominal independence, while she and her hubby can have privacy in the main house.
“That sounds like a really GOOD idea”, Ben muses. Since his own parents are slummin’ on a boat in Belize, and all of his York relatives had died off a while back (hence, he had nobody else to turn to for help except his birth-parents), Ben really has nobody else in the world, except his own immediate family, his birth-parents and his sister.
“I’m so sorry that you don’t have any other family”, says the woman. Ben starts talking about an ADU for himself and the kids. He’ll see what the Halpers think, of course. “If you’re interested in one of these, my husband can get it done. I don’t know HOW he does it, but somehow, the building permits arrive within hours while my Al has his construction crews standing by. And, since we’re all friends now, I’m sure Al can get you a discount”.
So, the plan for The Gulag II begins… and Bernice can no longer just bide her time and wait til Ben gets a job somewhere else and leaves…
Yeah, those fish are high-maintenance, what with requiring constant care (eyeroll). Bernice sure is a bad liar.
But does anyone find it weird that she’s expected at family dinners at all? I know if I’d been kicked out of my own home I wouldn’t want anything to do with my parents after that. I certainly wouldn’t be making nice at weekly dinners.
I am not sure why she is having a problem visiting her family. She needs to face this sooner or later. For someone who is studying Psychology, she sure hasn’t figured out her own problems.

And the Bernice bus runs out of steam and limps to the side of the road, then wheezes to a stop on flat tires.
