Shannon returns! And all are having a good time.

And Luann made a much better suggestion today than yesterday.

(Though I gave her a pass on yesterday. We are creatures of habit)

Watching the emergency light is fun? Lucky that Luann remember the fudge bars in the refrigerator. Hopefully, the Electric Power Outage will end on Saturday. Maybe, they switch to different household. BTW, where is Nancy Degroot?

Must be a new moon night? No moonlight shinning through the windows. Why is Frank sitting on the couch without Nancy? There only one emergency light in the Degroots` house. Bernice might be at the Halpers for a family dinner.

Since we are all interested in all the minutiae of everything going on in the strip, I’ll ask the pertinent question – who went and got the fudge bars out of the freezer? Inquiring minds want to know…

    Yes enjoy your fudge bars.

In the meantime, $500 worth of food is going to waste in the freezer. Eventually.

    By the way.

It’s early in the blackou, but have you notice that the DeGroot Clan has yet to express ANY concern for:

    1) Roommates?

    2) Friends?

    3) Enemies?

    4) Wives?

    ;)

Great suggestion Luann! Wasting fudge bars would be unforgivable!!! It feels like a sweet, tender, fun (and tasty) family moment ♡♡♡. This reminds us how facing difficulties together can unite and help rediscover pleasant things to do together.

We always had board games and a deck of cards on hand for power outages. Being in Tornado Alley, we also had cases of water, hard candies, tins of cookies, powdered milk, cocoa and cider mixes, small juice bottles, Coleman lanterns and camp stoves, tent, sleeping bags…

I won’t knock it, but actually a freezer will keep food frozen for at least 24 hours or longer if you don’t open it.

Who would have thought that a power outage could be portrayed as fun. :)

Luann’s silly suggestion yesterday is clearly overcome today with this winner of a suggestion.

It is interesting to note that the power outage has THUS FAR seemingly reduced some of Shannon’s energy as well…. and she has also been displaying GREAT behavior…. helpfulness, happiness, “going-with-the-flow”, etc.

When I was in high school an ice storm caused downed power lines. The outage lasted almost a week.

We got dry ice & packed it into the refrigerator & freezer, which kept things at the temperature they needed to be.

When the power goes out, refrain from opening the fridge/freezer unless necessary. Each time you open you decrease the time items will remain cold/frozen by letting in warm air.

    The FDA says:

    • The refrigerator will keep food cold for about 4 hours if it is unopened.

    • A full freezer will keep the temperature for approximately 48 hours (24 hours if it is half full) if the door remains closed.

Since the electric stove is out, Nancy is in the kitchen getting dinner ready. The fudgecicles are not the only the only thing she took out of the freezer. Everyone is having frozen spinach on a stick and she’s using Frank’s hacksaw to cut everyone portions of Stouffer’s beef lasagna. Bon Appétit, y’all…
