Look at an Ansel Adams, Edward Steichen or Alfred Steiglitz print and tell me there are no subtleties in B&W.

Everything looks worse in black and white?

    Kodachrome

They give us those nice bright colors

They give us the greens of summers

Makes you think all the world’s a sunny day, oh yeah

    I got a Nikon camera

I love to take a photograph

So mama, don’t take my Kodachrome away

Are you saying fifty shade of gray is O.K.?

Although this can be construed as an “Art” only offering, there’s a much deeper political message here. One that bears repeating.

There were nuances among the accused at Nuremburg.

Very well done artistically, Stantis, to convey the intent and meaning of your viewpoint.

Kinda like when the right-wing populists label Obamacare as “socialism.” I’m pretty sure one of my neighbors uses “communism” as a color descriptor.

We tried to get shading like that in our back stairway—upstairs blue to downstairs gray. It certainly doesn’t look this good.

Synchronicity here with today’s Calvin and Hobbes rerun. https://www.gocomics.com/calvinandhobbes/2021/01/31?ct=v&cti=1382196

How about the works of Ansel Adams, among others? Hmmm?

The question is going to noir at me…

I was on a chat thread and one commenter said he was a film studies professor who couldn’t get his college class to watch any black and white film, even Citizen Kane.

I mentioned this to a coworker and his girl and she said, “I took film studies once, and the professor wanted us to see Citizen Kane!”

    Pause.

“You think it’s the same guy?”

Black and white is at least better than all white.

XTC’s song “Wrapped in Grey” must be an inspiration for this cartoon.

For those with black an white morality a world of technicolor is a thing to be removed.

I notice that when the background is equally dark as the lettering, it’s harder than usual to tell what the characters are saying.
