He’s only practicing. When you dock in a few months he has to jump on his bike and ride home and he doesn’t want to forget the hand signals.
You can’t turn that way in the middle of the Pacific…you’ll sail off the edge…

What about the universal signal when somebody cuts in on you as you are about to heave to?

The most physically demanding, grueling & exhausting act people can do in everyday life is to flip on a turning signal. At least that’s my theory why people won’t use them.

Easily, 98% of the bicyclists here, do not use hand signals. Nor do they stop at red lights, or stop signs, even though both, are required by law.
