I don’t know about my paternal grandparents (both died before my birth), but I know my maternal grandparents (who I did know growing up) never used a cane. Then again, maybe my paternal also never used a cane.
My own sister noticing on her skin spots. My own hubby who is older same way of his mom, having trouble with his feet. She lived to be age 88 not able to walk and crippled hands.
Same thing with guys. We get all the same stuff AND we grow hair in places we never grew them before and loosing hair that we don’t want to lose at the same time. Thanks God…..
Yeah, after my head injury and AGAIN after my unrelated thorecoromy I needed first a walker then a cane. I STILL get bad dizzy spells occasionally, but I can take LOOOOONG walks now! The moral: NEVER GO SLEDDING!!!!
OTOH, I am 70 and my skin has become so thin that just hitting something splits my skin. Now my hands, and arms up to my elbows, are full of scars. Thankfully, I am able to stop most of the bleeding with Wound Stop. A really great game changer from DARPA and the US Army

Elizabeth says, “I didn’t know you walked with a cane, grandma.”
What Elizabeth means, “Why doesn’t anyone tell me what’s going on?”
What Grandma Marian thinks Elizabeth means, “Would you please tell me what it’s like to get old?”

Growing old ain’t for the faint of heart—you gotta be tough to make it that far! (Don’t I know it, says this 76 y/o lady.)

Spots just like wrinkles come with age, sorta like a badge of honour for making it this far.

Yeah. Unlike Jimmy Dean, I would rather fade away than go out in a blaze of glory. More of a MacArthur sort of guy, me.

Despite it all, it is good to see that Grandma Marian still has a lively sense of humour about it.

I think the medical name for those spots is “liver spots”. And, I have them, too.

I don’t have a cane but I do have a walking stick that I carry sometimes … and I’ve been trained to use it!

There are advantages to getting old. I’m not sure what they are, though. I sure don’t feel 70 inside.

I have that too. Rust? Maybe I’ll stop showering.

Possibly a result of the extra hand-washing and sanitizer?

Third leg?? Now she knows how her husband has felt all of his life, although I doubt it also has the second brain.
