in British Commonwealth English, a rutabaga is called a swede (and a zucchini is a courgette, an eggplant is an aubergine, and an arugula is a rocket); taught that to the produce to some of the produce department of the grocery store at which I work

Tiff has a lot of learning to do. Change up menus by the season and learn what grows in each season. Unless she gardens herself in her own greenhouse or buys from an organic grocery store – they are pricey. here are farmer’s markets but I believe they grow seasonally.

And here’s where it’s even more apparent that Tiffany does not have what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur. She has no idea what she’s doing and has no interest in learning (evidenced by the way she dismisses rutabagas without even finding out what they are or what they might be good for). She also wants to run a restaurant without knowing, or wanting to know, the first thing about food. As far as she’s concerned, that’s somebody else’s job. Her job is to be the boss and make money.

Not being a fan of the onion or any onion-esque veggie, are leeks the same as the Wild Leeks we have around here. They are plentiful in the woods, and, to those who have a taste for such things, are quite tasty. But the smell quite a lot and really can mess up a person’s breath.

HOORAY, it’s Dez ♡♡♡! And she’s wise as ever! I can see pirates eating radishes and leeks (with a lot of fish), but I don’t know if Bets will like it. This could be a disaster. But for sure, organize this romantic dinner will help Tiffany grow as an event planner.

If this is in California then why not go to a high end produce store? I live not far from one of the largest universities in the USA and the local produce stores have fresh fruits and vegetables seven days a week, granted the peppers this time of year are a little on the extreme side of > $1 each.

It kinda feels like GnK are having difficulty finding a milieu for the Tiffany character. Last week Tiff and Bets caused some excitement but it wound up as they are still study-buddies with far different social expectations. There were some brief teasers months ago around TJ drooling over the McMansion kitchen. Desdemona is looking more like just a green grocer in all this.

Ever since Awful Annie was booted, the McMansion has been added as a center for activities. It now joins The Gulag, the Fuse and the DeGroot home as arc backdrops. The Gray home and schools/dorms seem to have no place in the major character’s activities now; except for vague mentions of homework and class assignments.

It would seem that 2020 has been as major a disruption in Luanniverse as it has been in the real world! 8^ (

Ugh, we’re headed for a Tiffany Train Wreck (TTW). $300 for a custom meal sound good but really not so much given what Bets wants. Decorations, she hasn’t made arrangements for TJ or food supplies yet (really she’d do better talking with TJ first and having connected TJ up with Dez). Now if she can turn this (meaning get TJ on board and have him pull things together) and does this as a themed pop-up dinner she could have something nice going on but she really needs to find a way to reduce cost for the decorations.

Seems we have another logic leap from the decor discussion. Like it!Personally I like rutabagas or turnips mashed with potatoes and butter or in a stew. Leeks make a delicious soup. Wonder if we’ll see what TJ cooks up or take another leap into an argument between Tiffany, the “business assignment creator” and the “paying customer/economics tutor”. Right now I think TJ would be more helpful than Bets.

All the following is just my opinion: a rutabaga is sweeter and milder than a turnip (and BIGGER). I hate turnips – they can get HOT (as in spicy hot like a radish-which I am not fond of either). Rutabagas I can eat raw, but they also work in soups and stews. Leeks are milder than onions and go great in soups and stews. Arugula is kind of peppery (?), slightly bitter (?). I hate it.

Leeks are a good base, but except in famine times I would not call them a whole meal. A radish or two as garnish is okay. Not fond of rutabaga, though I’ve had it a time or two; baked in a pie it’s tolerable. What Tiff needs is something non-vegan! Maybe roast squab as a main course (at least two per individual; they’re small)….
