Person who wore the diamond probably had a short servant who walked beside her so her hand could rest on her head. The upper classes really tried to avoid even the appearance of stress.
Properly designed and build concrete hulls probably worked well so long as they weren’t faced with the pressure from nearby explosions.
Madison may have been physically smaller than average but he was much taller in intellect and ability.
How am I supposed to know how much a damned baseball weighs? So typically American. How about just telling us the weight? In pounds or ounces if you must.
I saw the Spectacular diamond on the news the other day, 100 carat flawless diamond. Nice, but how do you wear something like that? I would want a dozen bodyguards.
Last I read we still had a few of these Liberty Ships afloat. After the war (WWII) many were converted tp private sailing and eventually were sunk as reefs.
Durring WW2, there was a proposal to build supersized aircraft carriers out of pykrete. Pykrete is a frozen mixture of water and wood pulp. Such a ship (or floating island, as some referred to it) would need refrigeration plants while operating. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Habakkuk

The U.S. made concrete ships for WW I. The mob used one of the surplus concrete ships as a floating casino, brothel and bar during prohibition. The mob named the ship the “SS Monte Carlo” and kept it out in international waters.

Concrete’s not the most buoyant material….I wonder how long it took for that to sink in.

There are still some concrete ships in the Chesapeake bay. There are some over by the Eastern shore of VA. I used to fish around them occasionally.

James Madison was the only incumbent president who was shorter than his opponent to win re-election.

That’s not a “ring”. It’s as much of a weapon as a pair of brass knuckles is.
