1st panel in 3rd row seems a Futurist painting.

Go the easy route, Calvin. Snap your fingers. That’s a mini sonic boom. like when a whip cracks. Your fingers break the sound barrier on a small scale.

Hobbes is a 36 year-old tiger. At his age, it’s a good thing that his lung is the only thing that popped.

If you dropped the air temperature to liquid nitrogen levels and wore protective clothing, could you break the sound barrier? I’m assuming that lowering the temperature reduces the speed of sound.

Does the person traveling faster than the speed of sound hear the sonic boom?

Of course, in the reality side of the issue, Calvin must have carrying his stuffed tiger. So they likely arrived at the same time.

No sonic boom, but they were going ‘’wicked fast’’ all the same.

You know, I think you can get a sonic boom if you cover yourself in grease and jump off the roof. The grease will make you fall faster. …go

As you age you become much more efficient. For instance, I can jump from Ready Set Go straight to the final panel without any interim steps.

I liked the strip where they had a race to see who can be the slowest. Hobbes started going backwards, or say he said.

I had a cat who would walk with me in the woods. At the edge of the clearing, fifty yards from the house, I would say, “Ready, Kirby? Go!”

I would run as fast as a I could but Kirby would pass me in a flash and be waiting at the garden gate grooming himself when I arrived.

It was more than just a game. If we ran into something unexpected in the woods, I would run and Kirby would run with me, no questions asked.

Hobbes is the star of today’s strip. The face is what does it.

I can’t remember if we were running or if we were on our bikes, but I definitely remember reenacting this strip with a friend.

Shouldn’t they be breaking the sound barrier in a wagon or sled?

I have a young friend who flys the F18 Hornet and said there is almost no sensation when crossing the sound barrier.

At these conditions, an observer probably would not "see? the light from the ship. even the red end of the spectrum would be pushed into the ultra violet as the frequencies are compressed.
