Guess where he got the extra earth to put around its roots.

He thought it would look better over there.

But at what cost ?

Did B.C. just move the tree from over there (just a few feet away)? If so, it would have been way better to not have done this. The tree is more likely to “die” – having it’s life disrupted this way.

Often, one of the greatest things we can to for “mother” earth is to leave things alone.

A: 20 years ago!

Q: When is the next best time to plant a tree?

A: Today!

I guess that Wolf would like the tree.

Maybe there’s a reason trees are not covering the area there….

A guy was watching two CalTrans workers. One would dig a hole in the median, walk 20 feet away, dig another hole, etc. The second worker would come and fill in each hole dug by the first worker. Curious, the observer said, “I appreciate the hard work you’re doing, but why are you just digging holes and filling them up?” The second worker said, “Yeah, that must look strange, but the guy who plants the trees is out sick today.”

Nice work. Oh… Can I use your latrine for a minute?

And what if the tree is annoyed by this treatment? Does it start a #treetoo-movement?

Means nothing. New trees derive from seedlings. Tree planting is not a zero-sum game.

So, he dug up a perfectly good tree and planted it again. Sort of a tie, isn’t it?

I’ve actually done this, taken a tree from a feral area and moved it to my yard. They are small healthy trees now and the feral area is growing new saplings.

In the Phoenix metro area it is illegal to plant mulberry or olive trees. The pollen sends lots of people to the ER right around Earth Day. Existing trees are legal. Fortunately, mulberry trees don’t live long. Unfortunately, olive trees can live for thousands of years.

I don’t think he moved the tree, and where else is he supposed to get the dirt?

It levels out eventually…..

I have an oak tree I plan to do that with when it gets big enough to handle direct sun better. Then it will go in the front yard. In the meantime it’s hiding with the Rose of Sharon on the fence line.

Years ago I did that with a Maple, and it’s almost a tree now. :)

But not like that! Mounding up the soil that high around the tree can be deadly for the tree.

Did he just move the tree?

BC- you are obligated to keep watering that tree and make sure no harm comes to it; otherwise, you wasted your time.
