If he doesn’t get that taken care of, he may wind up dead as one.

Be glad that’s not a proctologist or we’d find out what’s behind the green door.

For those who asked, and according to many sources on Google, in days of yore (Shakespeare era and also later) many doors were built from vertical pieces for the width of the doorway and a small number of horizontal pieces for strength. The carpenter would drive long nails through each of the verticals and all the way through the horizontals. The part that exited the horizontals was clinched, or pounded over 90 degrees so that it held the horizontal piece firmly to the verticals. And that, my friends, is a doornail. The door in this cartoon has no doornails, at least none that are visible. There could be framing inside the door that is covered over by plywood, but in today’s world it would be stapled and glued together. I think if this door is feeling poorly, it needs to see a carpenter, and not a doctor. Unless it is a house doctor.
