I don’t have my own cowboy boots (not even a ten-gallon hat), but is it kind of cowboyish to wear a bolo tie? I — coming from Washington — have one from my Arizona grandfather.

Cowboys have freedom to do whatever they want, and so does Earl. He just has to check with Opal first.

Earl is right. Cowboy IS an attitude.

I was bucked of a horse once. (For real) landed on my back.

Cowboys don’t wear cowboy hats. They were baseball caps turned around backwards. Truck drivers wear cowboy hats.

Maybe he’s sitting on Roscoe.

When does Earl not feel silly?

I have a pair of square toe harness boots that I’ve owned since 1975. I know a genius that can repair just about any shoe or boot. Great for riding my Harley. However, since they aren’t pointed, a friend told me they were practice cowboy boots so that I wouldn’t kick myself.

Earl should reply:

“Don’t you feel silly wearing bunny slippers when you don’t wrangle bunnies??”

I had cowboy boots I bought in Texas and when I wore them here I got teased a lot! Never had a 10 gallon hat though!

Wait until Earl starts writing Cowboy poetry !

Dear Opal: Why are you picking nits about what Earl wears on his feet?

My husband bought an Indiana Jones hat. We were at a theme park waiting in line for the next ride. Hubby,(6’4") was wearing jeans pants and jacket as well as the hat that day. A group of Japanese were behind us. A young boy whose eyes were wide with excitement, tapped hubby on the back and asked “Are you a cowboy?” His response was “No, this is an Indiana JOnes hat”. The poor boy was so disappointed. Should have lied.

Saddle sores come to those who sit, horse, chair, bar stool, makes no difference.

Most people think all you need is the hat. :)

My husband rode horses when he was young, now instead of ties he wears bolo ties he has bought at yard sales and thrift stores, yet he is not a “cowboy” just a regular man.

They are just boots, some of them being horribly expensive. The ones with riding heels however are not at all good for walking

A whole lot of people who aren’t cowboys wear cowboy boots. Visit any state west of the Mississippi—and many east of it—and look around you. Cowboy boots are cool, and that’s all there is to it.
