One of my wards had a huge rat visit him when he piled his paper trays that he had been hoarding. As I saw the pile of trays move from the entrance of the wing I went to see what was causing it. The surprised rat to off into the inmate’s cell and went into a crack that was next to the commode. The inmate screamed like a bitch and I told him no pets allowed.
Serious comment of the day: I saw a news special about inmates who trained service dogs for wounded veterans. They got the companionship of the dog for several months but eventually had to give them up. Those grown men cried on “graduation day.” I think all well-behaved inmates should have a dog. They are desperately lonely and feel unloved. Perhaps they could take care of dogs from the pound who were slated for euthanasia. A win-win for both sides.

Could be considered “Pet teraphy” for prisoners. Or become the prison mascot.

“Mugs & Mutts” sounds like a new reality T.V. show for Discovery Channel!

She had Rusty eat a rasp file in his dog chow. What a clever way to smuggle it into prison. He’ll get all pooped out.
