Luann has had such a different life in a few years. The cartoony representation in the first panel shows that she was still a kid. However in the second panel, she is surrounded by colors that show she is becoming mature, but the brightness of the colors shows that she still is a kid at heart. Today’s comic strip has so much meaning absorbed in it. Wonderful! What do you all think about today’s strip?
That is so true. Does anyone keep lifelong friends from college? I have a few as Facebook pals, and one married by brother, but I barely remember the names or faces of others.
As much as I am enjoying this weeks strips I feel a disorientation because all these strips seem like something written 5-10 years ago when the characters were first going to college. I wonder hiw many people will recognize Gelta or Aaron Hill?
Don’t get all agog over Aaron Hill, panel one is a flashback. Panel two is the enormity of Luann’s school in high school, now in college. Is this leading to a more mature “space?” Arc time will tell.
College is more like real life. It’s harder and more complicated. But you can also meet many people who share your interests, meet these few who will become your friends for the rest of your life, FINALLY meet good teachers and be much happier than in high school. When I think back, I really hated being in high school.
In high school, I had no choice about being there, and didn’t do any work. In college, I (theoretically) had a choice about being there, and didn’t do any work.
The real difference was that college had video games and a pub.
Interesting strip today. I attended a somewhat large state university and a rather small private college of a large university. Both were technical schools. The difference was well represented by today’s strip.
Most of the time we got real, live professors for our college courses. But sometimes we got grad students of the Ph. D. variety. They generally were a bit closer to our age range. There is much to be said for teaching experience.
Is LuAnn left-handed? Or is that just easier to draw?
We still don’t know the educational situation of Luann and Bernice. The Mooney U. crowd is alive and well. Now we know the majors of Tiff, Bets, Dez and presumably Bernice, even. Luann’s milieu, however, is still a mystery to us; along with Bernice to some extent. At this point in her schooling she should have picked a major. From her previous strips at Pitts C.C., she should have an associates degree of some sort, probably in General Studies or equivalent.
Burning Questions remain! Whither goest thou Luann? And to a lesser extent Bernice, Jack and Ni;!?!?
This is why for many kids they are better off going to a small college or community college for the first two years, in order to get the General Education classes out of the way. Otherwise you are in a Cattle Barn and are paying Filet Mignon prices for Hamburger Helper. Then you can transfer to Prestigious University, also known as PU, to get that on your diploma if that is important to you.
I remember when GET FUZZY used to do themed weeks like this, whether it was applying the characters to a daily horoscope, or looking at “rejected” storyline ideas, or exploring reasons why Bucky or Satchel aren’t allowed out of the house without supervision, etc.
Delta made it back!!Judging by the response, you may actually have to bring her back.
She was different from anybody else because she was so SURE of herself;she had the bestidea of where she was going. But “normal” teens don’t faint in the hallways from overwork.
And I vote to bring back Knute. He was intentionally funny.Tiffany is only unintentionallyfunny.
Weird, this was the opposite of my experience as far as teachers. In high school, each teacher taught a specific grade/subject, so it was unlikely you’d have the same teacher twice except in the electives maybe. But we didn’t get a lot of those.
In college, if you had a particular concentration you’d probably wind up with the same professor at least a few times particularly if you found one you really clicked with. You’d see what they were offering for the term and sign up for it.
I remember my first classes in college and students were criticized for turning in work that wasn’t up to “College Level”. Maybe they will touch on that
I’d feel happier for her if she could have a meaningful relationship. We used to joke at that age about “long summer, not much rain!” But jeeze..she hasn’t had anyone to call a love interest since Moby Dick was a minnow!
This set of strips make it seem that Luann is still in the process of adjusting to college life, looking back and making comparisons to high school. Everyone else seems to be moving forward; Luann is still looking back (??).
