So, with all the people commenting on feeling less than enthusiastic about this week’s offerings, what adventure would you like Luann to have instead, preferably of a life-changing. character-building nature?
A day student at a community College WOULD have more of these experiences. Although folks finish their degrees at private liberal-arts institutions too.
I wonder if Luann feels like she’s missed anything? This is the first strip with this suggestion (that I can remember). Will she transfer to Mooney?
But I think the satire in this strip is that the characters are drawn with Luann’s perception. I sure hope so anyway. Wouldn’t it be great if she met someone Nancy’s age in a class, as she treated her like a classmate? That would tie in nicely with Nancy’s arc and put a dent in their ongoing ping-pong match… er I mean mother-daughter relationship.
Yeah. She IS missing high school. She felt important, she was well known. She had loads of friends. She knew her teachers. She knew everybody in her high school. She was involved in school activities. She dated. College? She is a little fish in an ocean. She doesn’t know 99 percent of people and faculty. She is not involved in school activities because she doesn’t know anybody to go with. Not even Jack is interested in dating her. The one girl friend she had was not her type although they remained on good terms. I sincerely hope Greg will move her over to Moony where she has friends and a support system. Perhaps right now Greg is looking for a financial solution for Nancy and Greg to send her to Moony.
The only time I remember Luann being really rude or mean in high school was when she would be that way to her friends when she was trying to catch Aaron Hill’s eye. Gunther was a typical target and occasionally Bernice. One time she told Gunnie that he can not sit next to her at lunch because she was hoping Aaron would sit there and of course it somehow went south on her as most of her schemes did. That one was over on the retro Luann not long ago.
While we are looking back into the past here – Gunther’s mom, Irma REALLY looks different now. If she had met Mr. Gray back then, think he would have gone after her?
So, pencil in Luann as the reveal of Tiffany’s ultimate roommate? Lots of irony and drama in that choice.
Coming and going. Imagine, the deGroots decide to give the second bedroom a lick of fresh paint, and well, Bernice can just camp in Luann’s room for a day or two, and….
Nancy: “Bernice, do you think you could work your organizing magic in Luann’s room while you’re in there? It would be such a nice surprise!”
Bernice: “Sure! She won’t even recognize her room once I’m done!”
One of the things that surprised me a lot when I started college was the number of older people enrolled. They were generally nice and it was interesting to be with them, hear their stories about the past and see their completely different point of view on some things.
Maybe we should be optimistic here. Obviously, we’re getting a week’s worth of Sunday strips. It’s gotta have a reason … leading somewhere ….. like on Saturday we’ll get the big “TAH - DAHHHHH, so THAT was the point” moment, and everything will be O.K.!! Right? … Maybe?? … Sorta?? …. ????
I think this weeks story arc was probably meant for late August or early September as a sort of back to school thing. Maybe they held it back awhile since back to school this fall wasn’t exactly a sure thing with the pandemic situation. Pointing out the differences between being a senior in high school and being a freshman in college is something every college kid relates to. As your world gets bigger it’s natural to feel smaller.
This clearly is drawn to show how Luann is trying to adjust to the differences in high school and college humorously. I thought today’s panels were funny. People never did mock freshmen back in high school? That was one safe Mick if you were even a sophomore. But the age and interest gap is so true in community. colleges in particular. Where is it going in her story is where I’m at now though.
As things happen, our college campus was on a mountain. If one had a class on the “lower hill” followed by one on the “upper hill”, it was quite a climb. I had that situation a couple of times and was panting by the time I got to the second class.
It’s ridiculous that they’re trying to present the idea that Luann is just now transitioning from high school to college. Maybe someone pushed the “black hole time machine” button that’s in the storage room of the Fuse. These authors seem to think their readers all suffer from memory loss. Maybe they think a whole new set of readers cycles through every six weeks. Or maybe they found these in a shoe box on a back shelf.
A whole week of HS/college comparisons. Not sure if there is a point to it, or G&K felt lazy. It was a treat to see Aaron Hill and Delta again, but it was just a tease. Luann’s life has been stagnant for years. It really is a shame.

Somehow I don’t think a guy with a walker would need Luann to get out his way. He would not be able to even keep up with her. =-/

All in all Luann doesn’t really seem to be enjoying her college experience. She seems overwhelmed and is nostalgic for high school.

At least G Evans didn’t make the guy saying “toots” a white male. Otherwise that male would be cancelled and expelled from college.
