I’ve always wondered how cartoon pants deal with cartoon tails.

I’m so cool nobody knows it yet.

I was never cool. I didn’t know I was supposed to be. I didn’t know anyone was supposed to be. I still don’t know – I’m totally unimpressed by stardom, popularity or celebrity.

I’m with Calvin on this one.

Wear a fez. Someone somewhere said fezzes are cool.

So far, nothing has been as stupid as some of the “fashions” nowadays – like having the waist of pants halfway down your butt.

I don’t know about “stupid”, but I would think that combined with his fur that Hobbes would be rather warm wearing those shorts…

Cool goes to “that’s SO yesterday” uncool, to forgotten, to retro, to Cool. Wash, Rinse, Repeat. Oh, I forgot one detail. When it is Cool again, it is 10X the original price.

Anyone who is really cool can do Mickey Mouse pants, but Mouse pants don’t make anyone cool if they leave your butt bare.

I don’t know. The mouse is making money hand over fist lately…movies are pretty lame, though.

Check your animal anatomy first chance you have….

It needs suspenders and the sombrero to complete the ensemble.

Hobbes seems to be having a lot of fun with this whole “cool” thing.

One nit to pick Hobbes…you’d look more New Wave (at least in the “New Romantic” sense) if you put on a puffy pirate shirt and leather pants…

I did a search and could not find a single image from the original animation art that shows them as anything more than big, round, yellow dots. Nothing that indicates explicitly that they are buttons, like stitching holes. The only reason for buttons like that on pants would be to hold very old-style suspenders, for which there would be a matching pair of buttons on the back.

Therefore, cool? No. On a tiger? Who (except Calvin) is going to tell him? :)

they do not look yellow to me. Ziggy does not wear pants either!

Well, he’s got the correct amount of fingers…

The third and concluding strip of this group puts the period on Watterson’s critique of our culture’s unending search for ‘cool’. There are more important things to be or do in life.

Even Mickey looks stupid in those pants.
