Sadly, a non-trivial portion of what we think of as history is almost as fictitious. That’s what happens when it gets written by the victors and the privileged.

Yeah. You are SUPPOSED to make the history report interesting, not the history itself.

I think i empathise with the teacher – the stuff that they might have heard!!!

That’s a lot more interesting & certainly more fun, than the real story of Thanksgiving, which has been embellished over the centuries.

The aliens made the right choice. Pilgrim with cranberry sauce just doesn’t make for a good dinner.

So does this mark the point that Native Americans started eating Pilgrims?

None of her teachers are like the ones I grew up with. In my time, such a vivid imagination would be applauded and she might be put in the gifted class. Of course, she’d still have to get good marks on her history tests, too, in addition to her imagination.

Just dig a little deeper, history becomes very interesting and will often disturb you.

I read Wiley because he is a superb artist. But his commentary is for the birds. Especially on Thanksgiving.

As a refugee from the blackboard jungle, I would have given her an A and told her to take some creative writing classes at UCLA. Then I would have told her to Google: how much money did Seth MacFarlane make for Family Guy. Then I would have told her to Google: Who is the highest paid screenwriter in the world.

Interesting how the ‘ping’ sound effect looks like an ‘F’ (I would have given her an A for creativity)

No two people remember an event the same way. Everything is viewed through our own filters – which may seem true to us, but are not usually an accurate, historical record.

At some point, her imagination has got to be given some credit.

If she were to tell the truth of the Native Americans helping the invader/colonisers survive the first TWO winters without all dying off and then being thanked with their being slaughtered and driven to almost extinction her parents would probably have a meeting with the principal as well.

Good historians make reading history interesting, try Shelby Foote, Samuel Morrison, Carl Sandburg, to name a few.

This looks like what The History Channel has been giving us lately.

He was said to be over 300 years old!

History comes in two forms, accurate (and tediously dull) or fascinating (and complete hogwass).

This is the main point of the story in_Lettice and Lovage._ Not to mention The Mikado: “Merely corroborative detail intended to lend a touch of verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and uninteresting narrative.”

Like any of it is true anyway…but so much of school is stifling creative thinking.

In the Diné legend of Turkey (not the Turkish nation, of course, but the American bird), Turkey is the one creature who saves history and stories to take along when all of them have to abandon their world for the next. Or so the stories say.
