When the machine price went higher than a nickel, I lost interest in knowing my weight. Eventually some of it got out in front of me where I could keep an eye on it.
Put in a dime, painfully watch it slowly rise, pass your weight, then slooowly come down to your weight on giant scale, so EVERYBODY walking by can see.
Then a tiny piece of paper popped out with your fortune on it.
“Let’s not forget that the folks of Toledo, selfless gave us the scale,no springs, honest weight, is the promise they made, so smile and be thankful each time you get weighed.”—John Denver

Something else is working if he’s paying a dollar to weigh himself. Gullibility, perhaps? Or just a strong need to waste money?

When the lockdowns began, I decided I was going to lose fifteen pounds. And now, after almost two years, I have just 22 pounds to go.
