Most people’s knowledge of Critical Race Theory is a lot like their knowledge of Socialism: People don’t really know what it is, but they do know they’re agin’ it.
I’ve long noticed that the words critic, criticism, and critical evoke negative reactions from people not aware of positive (or neutral) applications of those terms.
As in:
X— “I love the new remake of West Side Story.”
Y— “Well, the film critics—”
X, interrupting— “Critics! Of course they hate it! Why do some people have to criticise everything?”
Unless it socializes their lives, and that’s why conservatives don’t take social security, medicare, medicaid, or go to hospitals when they don’t take government-funded free vaccinations. What? They do?
So conservatives are against the teaching of basic critical race theory, black lives mattering, and allowing refugees or just immigrants in general to enter “their” country, in addition to all the religious xenophobia that opposes non-christianity and any equal rights for the LGBTQ+ community… But the radical left is going too far calling them bigots.
Fear of a thing is often caused by ignorance of just what that thing is. The current Republican tactic to cut funding for education, then tell people to be very afraid of the phantom menace. This is followed by;“Vote for me, only I can protect you”. Now four years later, are those brown hordes streaming across our borders taking away all you hold dear?
Forget the lies their teachers told them, and even forget the lies their principals and school board members and superintendents told them. Forget the lies their damn politicians told them. The problem is the lies racists tell THEMSELVES.
I think we ended up with three examples of institutions (journalism, government, schools), unless the father represents an institution I didn’t recognize . . . Is “Parents” or “Family” an institution?
The one small hope left, is that through all the denials and whitewash and just plain BS, everybody knows about the racism, and so, maybe, one day, America will face up.

Y— “What?”

That this is really happening in the Disunited States of America truly saddens me, but I’m not shocked or surprised.
