Calvin, you know that’s not good enough; we all know of what you’re capable.

One good thing about lowering your expectations is you’ll either be right or surprised about something or someone.

Don’t complain about how life is “unfair” when you wind up living under the underpass, Calvin.

Wasn’t it just two days ago that Calvin was complaining that there was no longer any pride in craftsmanship?

As Paul Simon says in Homeward bound, ‘…all my words come back to me in shades of mediocrity…’.

Now that I’m retired, I may take advice from both of them. Calvin’s advice is not good advice for children.

I’m with Hobbes. And in fact have some overseas investments.

Succeeding in life is like being chased by a tiger. Being good enough doesn’t matter. Being faster than the other guy does matter.

Calvin could be the GM of the NY Giants/Jets, Baltimore Orioles, Houston Texans, Detroit Lions or Jacksonville Jaguars with that attitude and make huge coin.

That approach would definitely reduce the level of stress that comes from trying to improve one’s life.

All that sophistry works out okay until someone else get a spark of competition.

Ironically enough it appears that Calvin grew up and became the director of the NEA. (It’s headless, too.)

Or better yet, don’t have expectations at all, so that when something does happen, you’ll feel happy either way.

Calvin has more in common with Pig from Pearls Before Swine, than he realises.

Sometimes it feels that way. That’s why I hate planners and stuff because I rack myself with guilt when I don’t met the simple exceptions so I try not to impose myself with them. Like “No pressure , but that assignment is due by Sunday so you should work on it Friday and Monday between work” But I don’t actually write anything, So my assignments either happen right away when I get them or aren’t done till the last minute there is no real inbetween.

People! This was supposed to be funny, not prophesy.

This, pretty obviously, is a comment on ‘participation awards’ and all the rest of it. Watched this happen, as broken homes became the norm. Women expected to work outside the home at grunt jobs, just like most men have, so a few women could climb to the top jobs and sneer at all the little people like a few men. At work, wives were exposed to advances from other men and men were tempted by other men’s wives, and work romances undermined homelife. Marriages foundered on the rocks of too-tired-to-care at home vs. too much excitement at work. Broken marriages and new unions resulted in yours, mine, and ours homes, with no one there to encourage the kids to make the most of themselves. Kids got fat while parents gave them ‘treats’ to offset the attractions of the other biological parent. Kids were ‘missing’, and media pretended it was because bad snatchers were out there, when the overwhelming majority of ‘missing children’ were taken by the parent who didn’t get custody. Nobody taking child-raising seriously, and parents looking for ways to beat up the spouse who had custody at the moment. Couldn’t get anywhere by complaining that you were mad that your ex did things with the kids you didn’t like, so you made up the idea that NO ONE could do (long list of things) with a child, making us an insane nation watching everyone for ‘inappropriate behavior’ rather than working to regain stable homes in which children were actually raised by their biological parents, not some alternate ‘care-givers’. In the absence of caring parental presence, we substituted trying to out-offer stuff to kids to get their loyalty, resulting in them being fat and spoiled, and then created concepts like ‘fat-shaming’ and ‘participation awards’ to offset the evils done by all the unstable home environments. Watterson’s complaint here is fully justified. Mix-and-match homes with kids sent to ‘childcare’ is NOT a satisfactory replacement for families of biologically-related persons. sigh

Taking pride in your mediocrity sounds like a like like shooting for the lowest common denominator… Calvin fits right in with our modern society!

Thus Calvin gives a clear and concise description and explanation of Woke mentality.

WELL MUCH OF WHAT YOU LEARN IN SCHOOL IS RATHER USELESS IN LIFE… AND MOST THINGS YOU CAN NOW LEARN ON YOUR COMPUTER… BUT YOU HAVE TO HAVE A CURIOSITY FOR IT, AND A DESIRE TO BE INFORMED…. SCHOOL IS GOOD FOR BABYSITTING YOUR SMALL KIDS SO BOTH PARENTS CAN WORK…IF THEY WANT TO MAKE A LIVING THAT ALLOWS ALL THE THINGS WE EXPECT IS OUT RIGHT TO HAVE NOW. LIKE CELL PHONES… THOUGH MANY MANAGE TO LIVE VERY WELL, ON WELFARE, AND PAY NO TAXS, AND STILL GET FREE PHONES FROM OUR GENEROUS GOVERNMENT!! EVER NOTICE HOW ALL THE REFUGEES FROM OTHER COUNTRIES ALREADY HAVE THEIR SMART PHONES?

A lot of Americans have lost pride in accomplishing things. Why should they when the Government pays them to do nothing

remember, Calvin’s primary characterization is that he’s a lazy 6 year old, the only thing he puts effort into are his justifications for not putting in any effort
