Sophie’s colors are so rich and beautiful today. It’s nice to see her smile.

Aw, Sophie made me smile. She’s like a rainbow after reading Georgia’s sad news about Lupin.

In my case attempts at the former two usually lead to the latter.

The magnificent new tower is loved by all!

Tommy is going to get to the top of that tower and declare his love for Sophie so grandly!♥

The long-neglected “official” BCN website includes a description of Lupin’s difficult early life. Poor kitty. But he was loved.

Will this have any impact on the comic? TBD.

It’s also a great place from which to look down on humans. That’s a natural thing for cats.

Georgia, I am sorry for your family’s loss. Lupin will never be forgotten through your drawings.

I just read the news about Lupin from last night. I am so sorry, but I am sure he is with all the others who have gone on their way, and waiting for us to join them.

What better memorial to the Cat of Adventure than to live on in BCN having more adventures. When Georgia adds Iggy to the strip he can join in just as he was beginning to IRL. Many, many hugs to the whole Dunn clan.

This is a happy comic on a sad day. I’m sorry to hear about Lupin but he much joy he brought me in the comics. He also helped many of my high school students who’ve read the books and saw my calendars. Georgia and family, grieve as much as you need, grief is just love we continue to show to those we lost. I’ve lost two cats and still talk to them on a regular basis, I’ll never run out of love for them.

So sorry to hear about Lupin. I hoped he would have lived longer. So glad he’ll live forever on this comic. RIP, cat of adventure, we’ll miss you.

Elvis-Anum: Let’s take it to our resident scholar, Violet-Ifa. I think she’s at the public library and coffee shop.

Violet-Ifa: Alright, it looks like this scroll is from King Catfu’s diary. It talks about the Great Pyramid. Apparently there was a proclamation issued by the Royal Carpenters at the summit of the pyramid.

My thoughts on Betty… She did not go to heaven. She is at the rainbow bridge taking care of all the animals until their owners come to get them. Rest easy Dunn family. Lupin is in good hands

This is Georgia’s post from yesterday for any who missed it: "It is with a very heavy heart that I share some sad news. Lupin died this morning, shortly after breakfast.

It was very quick. He’s had a great few weeks since his medicine was adjusted. He had been in good spirits, active. Breathing better, eating great, causing heck, and sleeping well. He had an appointment Friday morning to have new imaging and bloodwork, and I expected good news. He had a good day and night yesterday, and woke up excited for breakfast.

I’m pretty sure he had a heart attack or maybe a stroke. It hit him quick, but he did not seem to be in pain. (A nurse in our family thinks this may have meant a stroke, which feels a bit like a blessing since he went so quick and without much suffering.) Just one moment he was himself, and then he was not, and then he was gone. Goldie and Iggy never left his side. Ryan and I were with him too.

Even with four other cats, two children, and three pet rats, the house feels somehow empty without Lupin. He was a huge personality, it does not feel real yet.

Lupin was a terrifically good bad best boy. He was strong and active, until this heart disease caught up to him the last few months. I’m incredibly grateful that medication restored his spirits and comfort, these past few weeks especially. Just yesterday he long-jumped over the last few steps and landed in the kitchen. He has been regularly knocking my phone to the floor to wake me, and everything off the island to demand dinner.

There would be no ‘Breaking Cat News’ without Lupin. It all began when he knocked everything off a shelf and Elvis and Puck came running to investigate. I owe so much to him."Continued in comment below…

I’m so sorry for your loss. I’ve been crying my eyes out for the last 30 minutes. I can relate to Lupin, because of him being deaf like me. He will be greatly missed. He always made my day better through your eyes, Georgia, as well as the other BCN crew. Hugs and prayers to the Dunn family. ❤️

Such a joyful comic on such a sad day. I am smiling and crying. Dear Lupin, I don’t know what to say. He will be with us all forever, but still missed.

Absolutely beautiful strip starring an absolutely gorgeous and creative artist. Sophie, queen of all she surveys….you go girl!

Lupin’s life was one well lived and well loved. BCN has always brightened my days since I first discovered it years ago. Even through some very dark times. I hope the outpouring of love here and on social media gives the Dunn household some measure of comfort, too.

When we take these furry, fuzzy, feathery or scaly little creatures into our lives, we do so often with the knowledge that we’ll likely see them leave as well. We take this risk because, as Chief Seattle wrote, “if all the beasts were gone, man would die of a great loneliness of spirit”. So we let these ambassadors of nature live with us, care for them, see the world anew through their eyes, and let them leave tracks on our hearts. We call them “pets”, but if we’re being honest with ourselves, we know them to be family.

And when they leave us, it hurts. Of course it does. But we never truly lose them, because the tracks they left can’t ever fade; they’ve changed us, indelibly, making us a little more wild- a little more free- than we were before.

Wait-does this mean he’s dead in strip too?!

I just put on my Lupin pin in memory of him. I think I will wear it this week in his memory.

I’m literally in tears sitting here and finding out about this. I’ve had thirteen Babies leave me over the years. I still have five to keep me company. I will always keep Lupin in my prayers. I’m so sorry for your loss Georgia.
