Is the plant in the vase in the last panel what’s left of the beanstalk? And it sounds like there’s more to this story than just nine panels: How did the Wiz get down from up there, and what became of the Giant — and the Beanstalk?
I bet Andy Capp wishes he lived in a fantasy strip like this one rather than the comic strip he is in which is still largely based on Reg Smythe’s real life experiences.
As I mentioned on Red and Rover recently, Calvin and Hobbes is my favourite strip and Andy Capp is my second favourite. The Wizard of Id and Red and Rover are close runners for third place.
Drats. If only there was them magic stores here then I could gets and plants magic beans too and then go steals some giant picanic baskets along with giant beers.
all that effort to get a super x-large beer? couldn’t he just use his magic to teleport one to him, or make a regular beer super-sized?
also, it came in a six pack, did he bring the whole pack back? did he sell a couple other bottles as glass casks of beer? or keep for personal use in future?

The Giant gave the wizard a beer. Will he be able to drink it all?

Is the Giant the “Jolly Green Giant”? If he is. He works hard enough growing all the vegetables. He deserves a beer or two.

I think FOOM! is the cartoonists’ favourite sound effect, they put it on on blasts, catapults and even sudden beanstalk growth!!

I wonder if he borrowed that beer or swiped it. On a weird but related note, I wonder what Wizard bone bread would taste like? …ick

The inevitable “Beer Belch” will shatter the window as he spends an hour getting rid of the giant beer in the bathroom.

I’ve wondered. Is the giant’s house on branches at the top of the beanstalk or floating in air?

It’s a good thing the Wiz didn’t eat those beans. The result could have been a gas attack to rival World War One.
