The gist is ok for those with lots of experience. For beginners, enough details eventually get them there.
Example: after their early years of reading or viewing full news stories, most elders only need the headlines and sub-headlines to know where a report is going. From whatever event, to reports from authorities and/or eye witnesses, to promises from pols for ‘swift and prompt action,’ and thence to the clouds.
If life is in anyway like putting together a jigsaw puzzle (I’m not sure it is) you define the boundaries and then connect the related detailed pieces to make sense building various segments until they connect, all the while putting off dealing with the big picture, uniform blue sky, until that’s what’s left to deal with.
It isn’t Frazz. While it is more important to get the point, you can fill in the details as you go because to be comfortable you need a handle on both.

Sometimes, but only sometimes, you need the details to get the point.

My cat has points. I usually try to avoid getting her point…

God, or the Devil, is in the details. That is the point.

The guy who gets the point, maybe the enemy of D’Artagnan, and therefore becomes null and void!

The devil is in the details

Do you dunk your gist in your coffee?

If you get the details but miss the point you understand nothing. Kinda like my boss.

She wants the gist for her mill.

As I like to say “You’ve got a point there but if you wear a hat nobody will notice!”

I always wanted to be the guy who got the gal.

Give me the point first; then let me decide whether I need or want the details.

In entertainment, I’d rather get the details than the point. A synopsis is hardly entertaining, and the point may well be disagreeable.

Sorry I am not a compute and can function on a wider field than a binary.
