I root for a good game, I don’t want to waste time for mediocre or less. I don’t care for the teams or players as long as they are playing in fairness.
When you are watching the game because the only thing on the on the other 156 cable channels are infomercials for new drugs with fatal side effects you should ask your doctor about, useless gadgets like the Accu-Jack machine, or reruns of Lifetime Originals.
As I get older (I’m 68 now), I find my interest in sports getting less all the time. The only team I can honestly say I care about now is the United States Men’s Soccer Team. 1-0 win over El Salvador in a World Cup qualifier the other day. They play Canada tomorrow. USA! USA! USA!
I was a Maple Leafs fan until the strike. Then I watched occasionally. Then I stopped. I was at the Leafs game the last time they won the Stanley Cup. I was 15. I am 69. i do watch the Packers but as far as I can tell NFL is done till next year.
For reasons I cannot comprehend, my middle son frequently watches both college & NBA “basketball”.
But no longer when I’m around; he got tired of me calling the game the way the refs should be calling it. I never shut up: “Travelling. Travelling. Travelling. Double dribble. Travelling. Travelling. Travelling. Travelling. Up & down. Reaching in. Travelling. Travelling. Travelling……..” That would be less than 1 minute of play time. I think it’s been decades since I saw an NBA player touch the ball and not travel.
If they want to save the game, the first thing they need to do is call the game by the rulebook!
Then get rid of the 3-point shot.
Then get rid of the shot clock (If you’ve had your team up by one with 2 minutes left to go, and playing what we called “the freeze game”, you don’t know what excitement is).
And last, but by no means least, make dunking a technical foul again, and raise the basket by a foot or two. After all, when Dr. Naismith nailed up his peach basket at 10’ off the floor, the average player was about 5’6".

If you can’t root for either team nitpick the officiating.

I read it as a political comment. I don’t care about either team either. Only difference is I’ve entirely stopped watching the game.

I root for whichever team is behind or against the super teams where the three best players demanded trades to that team.

Quite a few times I was pulling for for one treat and ended up rooting for the other.
