I’m glad Dr. Man understands the difference between “things that make money” and “things you spend money on”. You’d be surprised – or maybe you wouldn’t – how many people get those mixed up!
I’m mildly surprised the Quinn Trust isn’t able to break even with the shelter with investment income and whatnot. Though we have no idea how it’s structured.
I wonder if there are any goodies in the attic that could help out? And as a preemptive warning to the feline residents of the Big Pink House: New roofs are NOISY. Our four feline family members didn’t enjoy getting a new one in the slightest, though Dozer did enjoy supervising the workmen when they weren’t making too much noise.
No one’s mentioned it but was wondering about the cute little chicken figure in panel one sitting in from of the Man. Would that be a chicken creamer maybe? And kind of wondering if there’s a counterpart IRL? 8)
Puckmosis: Your Majesty, we think we found where the Great Pyramid Archive Room is located, but we need Burt-Ra and the Royal Maintenance Team to get to it.
Queen Catshepsut the Golden: Very well. Serfig-Aro, please find Burt-Ra so we can explain the situation to him.
Serfig-Aro: At once, Your Majesty.
Sometime Later
Burt-Ra: It sounds like we need to open the wall to get to the Archive Room. That shouldn’t be too hard, but I’ll have the team bring material to shore up the passage way.
The Queen: So be it. Now we will adjourn for lunch.
At the Dining Hall
Thomios: Your Majesty and Friends, I would like to present to you a new dessert buffet featuring treats made with honey.
Elvis-Anum: Delicious. How did you get all this honey?
Puckmosis, Bea, Wally, Lupinium, and Violet-Ifa: We’ll never tell!
Yes, Puck, as wonderful as Tabitha and Sir Fig’s optimism was, they would certainly prefer a roof over the rainy symphony. I’m hoping this will lead into a new neighbor storyline, perhaps dovetailed with doing some fundraising for Quinn Animal Shelter (getting Tommy, Sophie, and their woman involved!).
Happy BCN Origination Day!!!!! On this day in 2014, the first BCN web comic (“Everything is broken”) was posted.
(Note: On GoComics, if you go back to the start, it will send you back to an alleged January 1, 2010 strip. This is a coding error by GoComics. The strip did not exist in 2010 and the “bacon strip” that is shown actually comes from April 2, 2017. But I digress…)
Georgia’s first self-published BCN strip was posted on March 12, 2014. Since then, BCN has gone from being a web comic on its own page, to being part of the GoComics line-up (in October of 2014), to being a daily newspaper strip (in 2017)—and it has now generated multiple books, calendars, decorative pins, and a wide range of wonderful items (such as mugs, cards, t-shirts and magnets) available for purchase on Zazzle.
As per tradition, I will provide a link to a blog post Georgia Dunn wrote back in October 2017, describing the momentous night before the very first strip was posted. See:
It is well worth a read (although, if you are a big softie like me, you will want to have the tissues handy). It is scary to think how close we all came to never getting to meet Elvis, Puck, Lupin & the rest of the gang.
This is a day for celebration: Eight Happy Years of BCN!!!!
Pucky, there’s two issues with not having a roof: The birds will know about all your business, and nothing will be in the way when the birds do their… ahem… “business”.
A friend of mine had to leave town unexpectedly. I didn’t get a chance to say good-bye. He was an old, orange tabby, named “Tank”.
He belonged to my neighbors and became fast friends with Colette, when she refused to run after he had feinted at her. Tank drove off another cat who attacked Colette, which earned him unlimited outdoor mooching privileges. Colette loved nothing more than to run mock attacks on Tank, which he bore with good grace.
A couple of years ago, I thought he was gone forever, but he turned up after a week, starved from being locked up somewhere. After that, he was allowed to come inside for his mooching to get his weight back up. He was always very polite and allowed my cats to sniff him.
The neighbors moved away and I thought he was gone forever. He turned up mooching in the kitchen two days later. They had only moved three blocks. They weren’t allowed to have a cat. For the last year, he spent a lot of time here in his old neighborhood and hanging out with Colette. However, he is getting old and all the intervening fences were a trial for him.
Recently, I had not see him in a week. They said he had been sticking around home a lot. He turned up twice the next day. I guess they told him I had been asking about him.
Two days ago the landlord caught Tank in their apartment and threatened them with eviction. They sent me a message yesterday telling me that they had found someone to take Tank, 20 miles away on the other side of a mountain range, in Atascadero. They knew I would have taken him, but he would have just kept going home and caused trouble.
“Atascadero” is not a euphemism. He really is going to be OK, with unlimited access to food and sunshine but … we’ll never see him again.
He is one fine cat and I’m going miss him. He was the only friend I have made in six years here. Like myself, he was a loner.
My friend had to leave town unexpectedly and it made me sad.
Maybe the Animal Shelter can try a Cat Cafe of Dog Cafe? Cat Cafes have become a huge hit all over the world. Slightly off topic, but if you are of a mind, help out the animals in Ukraine. Contact your local Humane Society or ASPCA, RSPCA, Whatever SPCA.

A lovely message from Georgia on facebook "Eight years ago today I posted the first BCN strip on our original site!I had drawn it in about five minutes, after Lupin knocked a shelf down, Elvis and Puck came running into the room, and I had done some old Timey reporter voices for them. This strip and the ones to follow would soon be shared all over the Internet and slapdash art style would stick I then spent the next year or so slowly evolving it into the style I wanted for the comic! I wouldn’t change a thing, it all happened when and how it should have! Still, look at the difference in the artwork from then! Wow! It pays to do a second draft if you sketch something funny out on printer paper and folks seem to like it. Thank you so, SO much to everyone who has read and loved and supported the comic these past eight years!!! Time absolutely flies by when you’re having fun, this all still feels so new to me in a terrific way! I am so grateful to get to write and draw these stories for you every day! Thank you for loving the characters and tales and laughing at the jokes with me. And thank you for making the community and comments around BCN so kind, funny, and warm. Much love to you all!!
I came back to look at comments this evening and frowned at the sight of Elvis apparently nekkid. I looked back through the last few days and realized that they all still have on their raincoats.

Pucky, you can ask Goldie about life without a roof. It is, at the least, a very nice plus, if not a necessity.

Elvis opening one eye to give his (grumpy) opinion in the middle panel is hilarious. And such a sweet detailing of the Woman’s arm around him.
