When has Calvin ever gotten a good grade? I recall one Sunday strip were after receiving an A, Calvin was envisioning a celebratory parade in town and given the key to the city.
This arc reminds me of a note I found outside a daycare. It was by what I guess is a four year old asking grama for help and to get her out of school. Note also had a note from a teacher that the girl wouldn’t come in at the end of recess
In truth, Calvin is nothing if not creative. That’s his forte. His imagination and creativity are off the chart, and far too much for rote school education to contain or satisfy.
This story line right here is what makes C&H such a fantastic comic. Imagine Calvin reading the story in class like he’d never heard it before, completely playing the idea that Hobbes wrote it. The class WOULD be roaring with laughter, and any teacher would eat up the creativity of the stuffed animal narration and presenting it like this.
I remember writing a few book reports for some other guys in my High School English class. It was a little irritating when they got A’s and I got a B. The teacher mentioned that they really seemed to apply themselves. …no. They applied me.(Not sorry)
I usually got A’s on my essays or would have if not for the spelling. I had one teacher who gave everyone the opportunity to improve their grades on essays we wrote in class: he made editorial suggestions on the papers so we could re-write them at home and resubmit them.
It was easy for me. All I had to do was sit down with a dictionary. Spell check would have allowed me to nail it on the first shot, but that was about 40 years into the future.
Hehe, Hobbes knows he’s in trouble with the first panel! At least later on, Calvin did get a honest “A” grade… https://www.gocomics.com/calvinandhobbes/1993/10/24

Personally I think it should be posted in every newspaper in the country and in “Riply’s Beleve It Or Not”!

Paraphrasing Rod Serling, Submitted for your consideration. An imaginary tiger that’s smarter than its human friend. Next stop, the Calvin Zone.

At least he didn’t send it to TYT.com or Newsmax. Hobbes has no political bias.
