Junk drawers are not for keeping things. They’re for putting off the decision of whether you want to keep it or not.

I’m the keep everything guy. My wife is the get rid of it girl. Hilarity ensues (sometimes).

What? She’s worried about stuff that all fits in a junk drawer? Tell me about the garage, closets, and every flat surface in the house – then there’ll be something to worry about.

The last time we moved we got rid of aa lot of stuff before we moved

We accumulated, and its starting to turn into clutter again

On vacation this week and working on it, weather permitting we have a yard sale this weekend and get rid of a bunch

You just never know what you’re going to need sometime in the future. The problem is … will you be able to find it when you need it?

I have several junk drawers. History has proven that when I throw something out I haven’t needed in years, about a week later I need it.

I bought a used SUV. I wanted to change the cabin filter but found to my dismay that there was no cabin filter in the slot and that the plastic cover to access the filter was missing. I put in a filter and fashioned a cover using a plastic slat from an old vertical blind I had kept in my shop. Waste not…

…or the trunk of your car!!

My daughter is slowly discovering this.

Every flat surface in our house gets taken over by my wife’s stuff. When we stay in a hotel, by the time we go to bed every flat surface in the room is taken over by her stuff. It’s like an animal marking their territory.

My mom never got rid of anything and my dad was the opposite, causing the only serious friction in their marriage. I’m afraid I inherited my mom’s tendencies. Fortunately, I mostly have trouble getting rid of things that are “still good” and don’t want to trash them. I’ll convince myself that I can get rid of it if I can give it to someone else who might use it.

She saw her future in a glance. A little early but revelations ccme when they will.

I can’t criticize. I did some cleaning a week ago and found a bunch of stashed-away documents, including a map I’d printed out… from Mapquest.

I have a 24 X 36-inch drawer that has so much stuff in it, I am afraid to look in it, from all the junk in it.

Jef, you’ve just created a new classic comic in my household. I’m sure my two grown kids can relate to this comic.

For a minute, I took the last sentence too literally.

Apparently the great composer Ludwig van Beethoven was a hoarder. But he was so rich that, when he filled up one apartment, he’d just rent another one. And kept doing it. He had six of them packed to the walls when he finally died.
