Afghanistan was another country which Russia tried to take over, unsuccessfully. Things are going much worse, much quicker for them in Ukraine though. It should be much less than 11 years before Russia has to abandon another takeover.
(The other player stands up and pulls out a sledge hammer from under the table)…. "And here comes the NATO COUNTERMEASURE nuclear rsponse move (KABLAM!!!).
Russian generals had a chance to launch nuclear missiles twice during the Cold War; 1962 & 1983. I’m willing to bet they won’t launch one now even if dumb8ss orders them. But would they launch a limited one on the Ukraine? Maybe. I’d like to think one would kill dumb8ss first before doing so. But that’s just me being cynically hopeful.
I wonder if one nut would be allowed to destroy the world, or would someone around him just bump him off when he gave the order. What good would it do to follow the order? You’re just as dead.
If Putin is insane enough to go nuclear, and if we respond in kind, we can stop worrying about the potential planet killer that is predicted to hit some time in the future. There won’t be a future.
What I’m finding hard to understand is that the “Rock n’ Roll” generation is NOT making a huge campaign for peace in Ukraine. We have seen all sorts of concerts for world hunger, farmers support, and what-ever. If the music industry would reach out and share the desire for peace in Ukraine that music will speak to the younger generations of Russians that love western culture. Through music the truth of Putin’s corrupt dictatorship can be exposed and change the mindset of the populace.
Cheer up everybody! Look at the bright side of things. If we get into a nuclear war, it will be followed by several months of nuclear winter. Global warming will be corrected in one fell swoop.
For those who are wondering, there are reports out of Russia — unconfirmed but there are a lot of them — that Vladimir Putin is in the late stages of bowel cancer. He may also be suffering from Parkinson’s Disease.
Okay, I’m laughing on the outside, but I know who was the first and, so far, last country to use a nuclear bomb on a civilian population. Twice! Russians would do well to remember that as well.
We made a pact with Ukraine for them to give up their nuclear weapons. The least we can do is supply them with conventional weapons to protect themselves. Russia didn’t keep their word, which really isn’t a surprise.

I really really hope that there’s never another nuclear even on Earth. Hope isn’t a very powerful force, though…

Sunflower oil is scarce because Ukraine is a major source as is wheat. People all over the world will starve because of this war.
