We seem to have a whole lot of people who value their guns more than their kids, and are proud of that.

The new school fashions are coming out later this summer. Exciting new line of camouflage…blends you right into a bookshelf or the top of line fashion …jackets looking bullet riddled and bloody…blend in.

The Politicians are seeking to outlaw the private ownership of body armor. Only the state-employed gun users would be entitled to wear that.

Saw a news item this weekend. Some models of rocking swings are being banned in the US because nine kids have tragically died while sleeping in them over the last eleven years. Of course it is horrible that these kids died, but it’s one kid a year; while 4500 people, far too many of them kids, are killed by guns here every year. And we can’t even have a civil, honest and, god forbid, non-partisan conversation about the safety of guns. 90% of us want change, yet 10% stall everything. This is democracy? Come on people, vote these zealots out and find people, of whatever political stripe you prefer, who can put the good of all of us before their own narrow self-interest; lest we lose our great experiment in democracy.

Maybe if we just made the bullets softer?

The first reaction after such an event is despair and grief. The next is possible flight, but schools and churches seem to have become the targets of choice, and every community has them.

Seems obvious to me and to others that the best way to reduce the numbers of these horrible events is to limit the sale and possession of rapid-fire weapons and to place limits on possession in general. Person owns a dozen guns and says it’s a collection, but who never shows them? Gotta wonder what that person is thinking as he looks at them day after day.

Some suggest a requiring a permit that includes at least some formal training in the care and use. Might work for many, who just ‘gotta have one for protection.’ Won’t change those who have some kind of grudge against schools or churches or who choose them because there is less likelihood of facing armed response.

Whatever results from all the ‘discussion,’ it is unlikely any solid legislation will be produced from the waffle-burgers in DC in the coming years. Stalling is what they do best.

It’s the NRA’s dream! EVERYONE ARMED, EVERYONE SHOOTING AT EVERYONE ELSE!!!

Yay! Chicago, Detroit, WashingtonDC and other Democrat run utopias with extreme gun control laws! Though. . . I hear they are working to rob people of bullet proof protection there now. Oh well. I’m sure adding more laws will encourage the criminals to FINALLY start obeying them.

I expect that school uniforms will all soon be made of kevlar. I’m surprised it hasn’t happened already.

Unfortunately, kevlar is worthless against assault rifles. Unless you are also willing to carry around twenty pounds of ceramic anti-ballistic plates, you are better off working toward gun control legislation.

Sat night (2AM) I got up to use the bathroom. I Swear that I heard shots in the distance. I’m in a quiet neighborhood in Madison WI.

actually had this conversation at the gun counter. Armor piercing bullets are scarier than an particular firearm, IMHO>

I live in FL. Too hot most of the year to wear Kevlar.

Just in time for Back to School.

I was confronted with gun violence in the 1980s while working in Bank of America’s S.F. Headquarters Legal Dept. I worked in the Litigation section on the 7th floor. On the 8th floor a disgruntled ex-employee was holding hostage at gun point the attorney advising on personnel matters. The gunman blamed the attorney for his firing. I did not know what was happening until S.W.A.T team members rushed past my desk fully armed. Not too much later, a disgruntled client of the law firm located at 100 California St. went on a rampage and proceeded to massacre many many innocent people. Then a few years later, while working at a law firm in S.F. I observed from the high rise window a person in full bomb detail uniform scan the area of a major bank for bombs.

Shopping for school clothes already.

On one occasion when he was promulgating his proposed firearms ban in Australia, our Prime Minister, John Howard, wore one of those under his jacket. We’d had a few gangland shootings, and there was the massacre at Port Arthur (look it up) but his solution wasn’t to disarm the gangs but to take the firearms from the law-obeying citizens. We still have gangland shootings; but no massacres. Yet.
