Confirmed, Violet has a Dixon Ticonderoga pencil. This comic has officially attained peak detail. Georgia, I salute you. (Besides which, panel 2 is gorgeous.)
A swamp-marsh? A swamp has trees and a marsh doesn’t (see panel 2 – no trees) but is this a swamp that turns into a marsh or a marsh that turns into a swamp?
Those of us in whom the more percipient observer might just be able to detect the very earliest hints of the preliminary indications of the initial signs of the beginning of the fading of the first flush of youth know the origin of the “record scratch” sound, but how many others do?
So much to love about this story arc – the artistry: details and colors; the flip from the role play to reality; and my personal favorite, Lupin’s single fang!
Melpomene: I’m just blown away at all this lovely pollen we’ve gathered! I can’t wait to make honey!
Queen Titania: For someone who represents tragedy, you are very cheerful.
Mel: The point I like to make is not that life is one constant tragedy, but that we all need to deal with tragedy when it comes our way. It’s like the song says:
ELO: Don’t Walk Away
When life comes your way
Don’t walk away
If things aren’t like they were before
Don’t fret, just let us help some more.
Don’t run aground, we’ll never leave,
We’ll be right there to help till the awful days are gone
Gone! Never fret, we’ll carry on!
…….
Don’t walk away, or even fly
We’ll be right there, we’re standing by
When nighttime falls, when day is done,
All through the night, it’ll be alright,
We won’t walk away!
Thalia: And don’t forget there’s a lot of happiness to be found as well, although sometimes you have to look for it.
Titania: And I understand you two have been looking for magical flowers. Have you been successful?
Mel: Not really. We thought we had found some, but they told us they were just ordinary flowers.
I lost track of our bard, but there she is, honoring us with the music swell. My favorite detail, fairly obviously, is Elvis’ wizard staff. I do wonder why he did not choose Clucky Chicken to be his familiar.
I recognize the cross on the front of Pucky’s “shirt”, but I cant recall the name.
my friend google says the “patriarchal cross” or the “Cross of Lorraine”.I first heard of it in a mystery story where someone saw it from a train(?) window.
(spoiler alert)
it turned out to be a partially obscured Exxon sign.
Since I’m doing these shoutouts, can we all give it up for… tad1! Tad1 always likes peoples post and comments friendly things, even if they haven’t been a part of go comics for as long as sue ellen they still I think are just as great a person
Gaming can be iffy. I play an online game and…well…have a small issue with figuring out my new character’s powers. I have this winsome little knack of unintentionally inflicting near-chaotic ‘friendly fire’ when in a dungeon. I’ve had other players actually flee in droves when they spot my main character.
I love how Pucks vestments cover the fact that his character has all of his limbs. D&D has been a place for the differently abled since the beginning. I remember a series of novels (before the D&D cartoon) where a gaming group was sent to the world and became their characters. One of the players had cerebral palsy and when they were getting sent home, he decided to stay in the body of his healthy character. Anyone remember the name of the series? That needs a reread for sure.
I’m not sure if my lady and I would have been admitted inside for the game sessions had we ever shown up without Papa Murphy’s pizza in hand. Since we never failed in that endeavor, I don’t know what would’ve happened.
My understanding is that some boys got together to play D&D and learn skills like dice rolling and snacking while some girls got together to practice cliqueing and shunning people who were different or whose jokes they didn’t like. :)
Later in life, women would be wondering why so many men were fat gamblers and the men would be wondering why some women were such …

Of course, Balrog’s are known for their almost exclusive diet of goldfish and orcs.I tried to reply to you but it kept popping my reply up to my first comment

Reminds me of our weekend games back in highschool. One Easter we forgot the snacks so we dared each other to eat the dog’s milk bone treats.
Spoiler: they are mostly tasteless, and have a gritty texture but they will fill your stomach.
