Back in the real world there are several people burned each year by being stupid around Yellowstone’s thermal pools and the geyser. Not only are some of the pools boiling and also acidic but the “ground” around them is often just a fragile crust that can give way. Darwin might not be earning enough of his keep but that’s a mighty rough way to tempt him.
Years ago some college students working in Yellowstone got hold of an old car steering wheel and shaft and stood behind the crowd at Old Faithful. when the geyser did it’s usual sputter just before erupting one of the guys called out “Open ’er up” and the guy with the wheel started turning it. They got a big laugh from the crowd as the geyser did it’s thing.
The first flight (Wright Brothers 1903) and the first step on the moon (July 20, 1969) were a little over 60 years apart. All within my grandfathers lifetime.
Grog, you’re standing on the equivalent of a filled volcano who’s rims would be over the horizon. And you’re ignoring the earthquakes and escaping gasses. And the last time she blew, ash dropped as far as what will be known as Wisconsin.

Not sure the steam burns are worth this method of flight.

There are much higher geysers but they do not keep on schedule as well.

it took me a minute but then I realized that, presumably, the US geyser Old Faithful would have been called New faithful a long time ago.

That there is a bad idea, I don’t care who you are. …is there a line? How much does it cost to ride? I’m just asking for a friend.

If you can walk away from a landing, it’s a good landing? I guess we will have to wait and see how well he lands or if????

That upward motion is very cool. It’s that gravity thing you really have to plan for. Oh well, trial and error is how we learn…

Old rule of aerodynamics — tie enough power to it, and you can make a barn door fly.
