Of course, that euphoria may come to a disappointing end when it turns out that he lost that $10,000,000 contract by not responding within 3 days of the offer.
Perhaps there are better ways to make your point. You don’t take away a first aid kit, why would you take away an emergency contact device? Delete all his apps instead.
Changes in my lifetime: In the 1990s, we would go to a family camp for a week. One pay phone in the camp for use of all the campers and staff. I’d leave a voicemail message that I’d be out of touch for a week. Maybe I’d call in for messages once or twice (at 4 am or so, the only time the phone wasn’t in use) to see if anything terribly urgent was going on; if so, I’d forward the message to someone who could handle it. Nobody expected anything different.
It was a high stress job. I needed a few days completely away from it. Now, of course, there’s a cell tower close enough to camp so this sort of respite isn’t available.
A family for a reality show (in the UK) had to live for 6 wks in the year 1886. When it was over they were happy to get their electronic devices back, but used them less.

Don’t even more kids than grownups spend their lives glued to their phones lately?
