The reunion between Tommy and his Woman is absolutely amazing! I just love it! Yes, Tommy has made many friends among the cats of the Big Pink House, his sweetness reaching even the hardest of hearts.
I was teary this morning, and not only over this strip. Smudge disappeared yesterday afternoon/evening. I called and called, to no avail. This morning, he came sauntering in as though nothing had happened, and was flabbergasted when I grabbed him and kissed and cuddled him and told him he was the best boy ever for coming home.
I was hoping this would be the perfect end to tribute week. I hope Tommy’s woman has found it a little comforting to know Tommy will always live on here among all his friends… hugs
I have a 14 year old cat that has never been outside our house in his entire life, except for two or three visits to the vet. He never showed any interest in going outside. Back at the end of May, he slipped out an open door while bringing in groceries and I haven’t seen him since. I have no idea why he suddenly decided to leave or if he’ll ever come back. He is a small cat, about 10 pounds, and I’m not sure how well equipped he is to defend himself. I hope he’s alive and OK, but with every passing day I lose a little more hope that I’ll ever see him again. Even if he’s able to avoid cars and predators, he’s no spring chicken. Come home Spiff!
We slept in this morning, til 7:30 AM, and boy, were the cats all so happy that I put out the dry and opened/retrieved from the fridge the wet. Extra cream and tuna in oil because they let us sleep. Or we were so deep in sleep that we did not hear them. Two Siameses and a Norwegian Forest Cat are not usually this quiet when they are hangry. Oh, now that they are fed they start berating me for my “tardiness.”
Two Updates from Georgia’s Instagram page, about the Tommy Tribute being run as she and her family recover from covid and for Lupin’s 10th birthday:
Many readers have been commenting that they’ve put their Tommybaum out in honor of Tommy this week. I love that idea (thank you) and put ours out too.
Thank you so much for all of the kind words and comments and wishes of comfort for Tommy and his family. Tommy’s Woman has been reading them all, and wrote on his FB page ‘Admiral Thomas “Tommy” Whiskerstache’ today: "…And for everyone that has written kind words in Tommy’s comments, on BCN’s page, and sending messages – please know that I’ve read every single one and while we’re still shattered over the loss of Tommy and his huge personality, I also love knowing how many people also loved that sweet lovable goofus.”
“Ten years ago today this spectacular spirit came into our lives. It feels brutally unfair that he is not here to celebrate with us. Nine years was too short a life for such a big, boundless being. Lupin packed a LOT of living into those nine years, though. He didn’t waste a day; didn’t waste minute. Whatever he wanted to do, wherever he wanted to go, he did it. I hope to bring his spirit, courage, and energy into all I do. And I still hope—often—that he’ll haunt us from time to time. He is a hard cat to miss. Lupin can knock over whatever he wants, just as long as he stops by to say hello. Happy Gotcha Day, Lupin! We will love you forever.”
We got home last night after a weeks vacation. My boys are still sleeping on my lap and purring. My girls were between us last night. We feel so blessed! Thanks to both daughters and Grandpa for visits this week to my cats.
She seems to be responding quite well to the medications the vet prescribed and, thanks to the chicken I boiled today, we have lots of chicken and dog-safe (no onions or garlic) chicken broth to tempt her appetite and encourage her to eat. I may have a hard time convincing her to go back to her regular diet once she’s healthy again….
This reminds me of something that happened with our little local stray community. Of a night, I put food out and sit with the stray visitors that come by, I give them names based on their appearance. The most regulars are “Smoke” a gorgeous Russian Blue, (I know right? A stray Russian Blue boggles) and “Void-Floof” who as you can imagine needs no description.
Anyway, I also take photos of the guests, usually while they’re dining, and share them on the local facebook groups.Well it turns out that there is a missing Russian Blue named “Elmo” in the neighborhood, and after sharing "Smoke"’s photos, "Elmo"’s Mum makes a positive ID.
I pledge to her to lure “Elmo” into custody. Easy enough, he’s a sweet boy who comes for strokes.Anyhow I get a hold of him, and message his mum who lives nearby. She sees the cat I’ve caught, and confirms his identity, but he got away from her on the way back to her car and disappeared into the neighboring block of flats.
So, back to the drawing board, try and recapture him.I take it slow to rebuild the bruised trust from the attempted capture, so it takes a couple of weeks.I reach out again to "Elmo"’s mum again and lo and behold, the real Elmo came home a week ago, and Smoke, who was always Smoke and never Elmo, had no idea who this woman was.
So I go back to calling Smoke by his “proper” nickname and working towards eventually luring him into a travel cage so we can take him to the vet.
I hope you enjoyed the story as much as I enjoyed living it ;)

Everyone go hug your cat now, if they’ll allow it (skritches and headpats count).

The Orb’s Tommy Conclusion: We’re Not Gonna Take It
Tommy’s Woman: Welcome, one and all!
I guess you know why we’re here.
Tommy’s been found and we’re going to celebrate the New Year!
If you like charcuterie you’ve come to the right place
I have the finest ham, a variety of cheeses
The best of honey too!
……..
There’s another reunion, Tommy’s family and friends
Here’s sister Samantha, our own librarian!
And Sally the church cat, the kids all love her
At the Sunday School!
Here’s Lady Anne, artist extraordinaire,
Sophie’s new friend, so cool!
…….
Alice: We are gonna take it!
We are gonna take it!
We are gonna take it!
We are gonna take it!
Cheese and ham and so much more!
We are gonna take it!
Gouda pieces by the score!
We are gonna take it!
Who is gonna miss it?
We don’t think anyone will!
They’ll overlook them
Don’t have to cook them
We are gonna feast tonight!
…….
See ham,
See cheese,
Steal them
Is a breeze….(Repeats several times)
…….
Tommy: Ladies, take as much as you want!
All: Tommy, being your friend, brings joy and laughter
Being with you, is such a treat!
Hearing your voice, so full of laughter
We love you so, now let’s eat!
Right after you, we’ll take ham and bacon,
A bit of cheese, maybe some fish
And then, we might have dessert
We’ll do whatever you wish!
Tommy, loved by one and all!

My eyes open to the sound of a song I’ve heard
Don’t know the name, but I know all the words
Sun came up, crawled into the front seat
Memories leaving me, was it all a dream I had?
Time for us to wake up
I’ll save my words to make the most of it
I never meant to be gone so long
Do you still remember my touch at all?
I never meant to be gone so long
Street lights passing everyone
Gets me a heartbeat closer
To where it started beating
Keep me feeling safe and sound
When everything that’s right is upside down
Was it all a dream I had?
Time for us to wake up
I’ll save my words to make the most of it
I never meant to be gone so long
as I have you I’ll be home
I never meant to be gone so long
I’m sorry I made you wait
I wish that I could stay
I live for this, but I’d die for you
The world still moves on.
Do you still remember my touch at all?
I never meant to be gone so long
Do you still remember my touch at all?
I never meant to be gone so long
As I have you walk me home
I never meant to be gone so long
Do you still remember my touch at all?
I never meant to be gone so long

Tommy is the kind of lost cat who makes new friends instead of moping around – the best kind of cat, because that’s how you get “found”.
