There’s always a catch (the catch here being what Luann would write that’s worth laughing about).

I suggested that this may be a new calling for Luann. She may meet new people. She could do well with a romantic literature writing beau!

It was a stark and dorm-room sight.

$50.00, a couple of gallons of gas? Who says Luann can’t poke a little fun at inflation?

First she tellls Luann to write a book now she’s looking up local amateur writing contests with peanuts for a prize. This is Luann’s so-called job search all over again.

This is insane. The only person who would find Luann’s past crush funny is Bernice herself. And once again, Bernice is being sarcastic at Luann. She is not a friend!

C’mon, Bernie – for Luann to write something, you guys need to trade places. You in front of the cassette player, and Luann in front of the computer keyboard. Derp… derp…

What a scam! They get to harvest all those Emails, and all the entries become their intellectual property, and all they’re out is a lousy 50 bucks.

I wouldn’t waste your time, Luann.

Um, Bernice. Perhaps you are better as career counselor/guidance counselor whose job is to help students in their transition. You seem to be in the know about things such as contests for humor stories. Maybe crisis/conflict/personal/trauma counseling is not your thing.

Luann may have actually hit her stride; she pretty much channeled Van Gogh and showed a real potential for writing ….if she can get her own crazy and much muddled love life onto paper, that $50 might be hers. But, she has to write comedy and at the heart of comedy is cruelty as “its funny because (thank god) it didn’t happen to me”; Luann has plenty of material to work with.

She could write something called “Luann Scenes in a Teen’s Life.” It would be a rockin’ musical for all ages and stages.

I wonder if Greg is writing a book about Luann. When Luann recorded a song with Quill Evan brought a song about Luann. And Luann’s interest in the theater seemed to last only as long as it took to write and produce a play.

Dunno if Luann will be able to win a competition with the first story she’ll write. But Bernice is doing a good thing by finding a contest and pushing her to try. This could be the start of something really important for Luann.

Is this story arc going ANYWHERE??

A couple gallons of gas and maybe you’ll have a little left over to buy a Slim Jim…

Maybe Luann could write a story about a dimwitted blonde girl who gets teased by her obnoxious know-it-all best friend. It will be a bestseller.

Yeah, don’t spend the money before you get it. Great slam on the price of gas also.

I mean, in the long run, she could use this scripting to create a tiktoc channel.

Why not just transcribe some of her taped diary entries?

Has Luann ever shown any skill or interest in writing? Why would Bernice think Luann would be good at writing?

Maybe Luann’s thinking about buying laughing gas, Bernice. With gasoline prices down, $50 would buy way more than two gallons.

This idea of writing a story from a recording keeps skirting around the previous arc with Vale’s recording Luann. Wonder if that is done or if there will be a tie in.

Hmmm.

Any chance of getting a signed copy of Luann’s book at Barnes and Noble before her followers burn it down?

As usual Luann isn’t considering the key part here i.e. writing the story; she leaps past that to getting the prize money. Maybe Bern should enter instead.

This comic breeds apprehension. On one hand, I’m thinking how great that would be for Luann, but on the other hand my gut tells me it’s all going to end in disaster and no fifty bucks.

With today’s gas prices a couple of gallons is all you get for $50.00.

I will love to see what Luanne comes up with; but, I have a suspicion Berenice is going to write in Luann’s name.

Just paid $3.50 for gas. 50.00 = over 14 gallons.

There seems to be a glaring flaw in the logic here, mainly that for comedy to be successful (long-term as opposed to viral) it typically needs to be deliberate. Bernice was laughing more at Luann’s expense than at the story itself. Has Luann ever been portrayed as funny (or even very entertaining) on purpose? We’ve seen this kind of setup before, for example on It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia: sad sack woman whines about her life and people find it hilarious, so she tries to turn it into a comedy career. But it turns out that the audience only enjoyed laughing at her, not with her.

But still, if G&K are determined to rip off sitcom plots, they could do a lot worse than IASIP.
