    Some came running

    Into danger

    Risk their lives

    Helping strangers.

    Mighty towers

    Tumbled down

    Many helpers

    Never found.

Save us from the true believers

    Hateful violence, vile deceivers.

    Today ‘tis fitting to recall

    Some came running, sacrificing all.

    Good morning™, everyone.

Today’s strip reminds me (probably intentionally) of the award-winning 1956 French short The Red Balloon.

debonismichael26 about 14 hours ago@avenger09How would you have spruced up this story’s plot, if you were writing it?

    (From late yesterday)

    Very reasonable question.

I’m not a fan of the Moonie stories and I’m sure everyone knows I despise Mad Mindy but I’ll try to approach this as neutral as possible.

My version will ignore all the restrictions and rules Team Tracy has to deal with so it might be unprintable but hey, “It’s just a fantasy!”

    1. First off I wouldn’t have had the 2 ladies come at all since it was foolish of the Govassador to place them into an unstable situation. Having said that let’s keep them in the story.

    2. Kill all the needless story filler, Honeymoon strolling with moonteen, Mad Mindy having a one night stand, way too much coffee drinking, etc. Stick to the rebellion.

    3. It was the low point in the story to let Shay – Gin simply stroll away. At the very least if you’re not going to kill her you need to hold her captive.

    4. Both girls played no part in the story. Despite my dislike of Mad Mindy I would have had her and Honeymoon help defeat Roe -Zan and his goons. You could have shown some conflict in MM before she intervened.

    5. (Get ready, this is awesome) I would have caused major injury to MM resulting in her being in a coma. At some future date she would emerge with her Mindy memories restored. This would lead to some interesting plot directions.

    6. Finally, Honeymoon gets a puppy named Fiddler.

    The end?

    Blue skies turned to gray

No one knew at the start of the day

That shouts of grief and words of rage

Would be the normal things to say

    Innocents lost

    Tremendous cost

    Continuing ’til this day

    Heroes born

    On this day of scorn

    Forgetting is never ok

Well, it’s twenty one years later. How much have “we” learned in all that time? Sent tens of thousands of soldiers, many killed, more wounded, spent trillions of dollars. Still the Taliban controls Afghanistan. Seems “we” haven’t learned anything.

Excellent tribute to 9-11 hero, Officer Bishop. Superb 9-11 comics tribute by Mike and Shelley, that is both extremely well-written and well-drawn. May the fallen heroes of that tragic day all rest in peace and may the ones still living always thrive. God bless America.

I have a collection of 9/111 comics from over the years. At first everyone published one. Then, over time, as other tragedies occered, fewer and fewer took the time to do one. The folks at Dick Tracy seem to Never Forget.

    Thank you.

The death toll continues to this day and has now surpassed 5000. In addition to the nearly 3000 people killed on September 11, there have been those like Officer Bishop who died later due to exposure to the toxins released into the air.

    From Wikipedia:

It was reported in 2018 that at least 15 FBI agents had died from cancer due to their roles in the aftermath and investigation of the attack. Further, a medical director of the World Trade Center Health Program at Mount Sinai Hospital reported in 2018 that out of the approximately 10,000 first responders and others who were at Ground Zero and have developed cancer as a result, more than 2,000 have died due to 9/11 related illnesses. The Uniformed Firefighters Association of Greater New York also reported over 170 deaths of firefighters due to 9/11-related illnesses, and that roughly 1 in 8 firefighters who were at Ground Zero have developed cancer. At least 221 policemen have died in the years since 2001 from illnesses related to the attacks in New York City.

It only took “Congress” And constant ranting from Jon Stewart for our “heroes” in Washington, about 15-16 years to pass legislation compensating some of these first responders.

These in the days when heaven was falling

The days when earth foundation fled

    Followed their mercenary calling

took their pay and are dead.

Their shoulders held the sky suspended

They stood, and earth’s foundations stayed.

    what God Abandoned, these defended.

As a long-time New York City resident, I immediately recognize the location of the child in panel 3. She’s standing on the sidewalk in back of St. Paul’s Chapel, the front of which is at 209 Broadway, and the back of which fronts Church Street, roughly on a line where the old North Tower was. By a fluke, the old building (one of the few pre-1776 buildings still standing in Manhattan) was saved by a tree shielding the building from falling debris.

Since Saudi Arabia furnished 19 of the 20 hijackers also money and Pakistan armed and trained them why did we attack Afghanistan and Iraq? Afghanistan is barely a country more like a group of warlords under a flag. Afghanistan couldn’t have kept bin Lauden out. Why are Pakistan and Saudi Arabia still our allies?

I grew up a mile and a half from the World Trade Center, and saw it go up.

I manned the Emergency Operations Center for the City of Newark, NJ, on September 11, 2001, and saw the Center come down.

Along with my boss’s cousin, my teacher’s eldest son (an FDNY Fire Captain), a high school classmate, and 85 of my wife’s friends (through her friendship with the retired Chief of Operations of the WTC).

I still get angry when someone calls it “Ground Zero.” That is the World Trade Center site, NOT “Ground Zero.”

    Of questions:

    1. We now know that Lunarians have their own written script, and their own language- Dick Tracy used two of their words. Cartoonists’ convenience that all of them understand English (and what other languages, Japanese?) and all of them spoke English within our hearing.

    2. When was the last ‘Lunarian’ story? I think it was Brock Archival’s kidnapping of Mysta Chimera.

    3. When will be the next ‘Lunarian’ story? And about what? Unknown. Although it seems clear that ‘Team Tracy’ uses the Lunarians as proxies for the topics of “hatred towards others”, “fear of others”, and “discrimination against others”. And there seems to be an unspoken agreement that only Honeymoon and Mysta Chimera are known to be on earth, the others not so known.

3b. In that vein, when was the last time a Black was a villain in Dick Tracy? Much less arrested by Tracy’s Major Crime Unit?

    Nicely done, Team Tracy. Thanks.

The James Taylor reference is interesting. It’s one of my favorites by him reflecting my own particularly angsty adolescence so many years ago. It contains references to specific accounts in Taylor’s life that each could be seen as analogous to part of 9/11. In general, the song is about struggle and turning points, certainly a significant part of what 9/11 represents to us.

And thanks also for honoring one of the heroes of 9/11, Lt Reimer, another significant part of what 9/11 means to us.

Intro (skip if you’ve already read any of the previous intros):

Hello, greetings, casual readers of past Tracy stories. I’m here because I’m on 2 missions. The first is something I’ve never done before, read each Tracy story by Mike Curtis (or his occasional guest writer) in one sitting each. I feel his stories are worth it. IMHO, Curtis is by far the best post-Gould writer this strip has ever had, and we’re all lucky to have him.

My second mission is to provide an immediately useful Featured Comment whenever needed. My 3 friends below will reply to me. You can read their replies if you like, but their only real purpose is to bump up this comment to the Featured Comment.

There are 2 basic types of immediately useful Featured Comments: the first type is to provide you with a Mumblespeak translator when needed. The other type (this type) is anytime that day’s strip quotes a real song. I will provide an html to a recording to that song so you’ll know the tune even if you’ve never heard it before.

    End Intro

For this special 9/11 Sunday strip, the creative quoted from this song to make a moving tribute:
