Like coffee, elevators are good to the last drop.

Mr. Otis IV, like all in his family, has dedicated his life to elevators. He disdains stairs and most escalators. He even wears elevator shoes. His classes are actually detailed and thorough. He goes through things floor by floor.

Pop quiz. What brand of cola is this?

That looks like a lot of work. I’m going to the Maytag Repairman School down the street.

Things have gotten easier in this technological age. The earliest versions of the course required students to pull themselves up by their bootstraps.

When I was little my dream job was to be an elevator operator. They had a cool military type uniform, a stick to keep people away from the gate, and got to operate the brass wheel to select the floor. OH, WHAT POWER THEY HAD!

Can it be a pop quiz if they let you know the day before? I hated those things.

There’s a lot more to elevator maintenance than up or down.
