OT. The OED has not yet accepted “hork” as a legitimate spelling. Still insists on “hawk”.
However, Stuart McBride* uses a dialect word “howch”. Pronounce the ch as in “loch”, and it is onomatopoeic. I’m happy to use that in the future, and recommend it to all.
(I also recommend McBride. Good writer, though his descriptions of Aberdeen weather make him the enemy fo the Scottish Tourist Board.)
Look some days I have a novels worth of commentary.. and somedays I just delight in seeing pucky try to eat a sheet while his people, as usual, don’t seem to get WHY he’s doing that. IN this case less understandable since he swats at leaves every year. I’m also directing this only at The Man And Woman. The Real Life Dunns likely simply didn’t think of this when they bought some cool sheets and got annoyed/laughed a LOT at Puck’s antics, and thus we got a week a strips out of it. Possibly more as this dosen’t seem remotely settled yet. We’ll see tommorow.
This is like one of those 1970s epic disaster films where only one lone cat understands the risk and danger. The clueless People around him dismiss his efforts to warn them of the impending doom but it won’t be until the leaves turn on everyone that they will know what Pucky was trying to save them from.
Have at thee, lump! Let’s hope there are no cat friends hidden inside this time. Threatening or not, Puck might just beat the leaves by making enough holes in the sheets. I certainly would not want to sleep on them when he’s done.
Aww, nice to see it from the People’s point of view: Crazy kitty attacking the sheets. If only Puck could make them aware of the grave danger they are in.
My very favorite term for the falling leaves comes from the Canadian cartoon series “Little Bear” In one scene where the little bears are playing in the falling leaves, the little girl bear sings “It’s Leafing, it’s leafing!”
Today’s strip is so very pretty. The colors and white space and Puck. I can’t get over how pretty it is! (I keep going “wow! that is so cool looking!”).

Pucky will not be denied! You’ll thank him for it later, People! When you’re not all buried under an avalanche of attacking leaves.

Joey Scarbury: Believe it or Not
Puck: Look at what’s happened inside here
There’s been an invasion of leaves
Suddenly they’re all coming and staying indoors
I’ll fight them, I roll up my sleeves!
…….
Goldie: Believe it or not, these leaves are unreal
They pose no threat, don’t you see?
They are just pictures on the human’s sheets?
What could they be?
They’re harmless, please listen to me!
…….
Elvis: Goldie has gone to the dark side
She says the leaves are ok,
Doesn’t she realize the threat that they pose?
As Puck fights them every day?
…….
Goldie: Believe it or not, these leaves are unreal
They pose no threat, don’t you see?
They are just pictures on the human’s sheets?
What could they be?
They’re harmless, please listen to me!
…….
Puck: This threat is only too true,
I’m doing this, protecting you!
…….
Goldie: Believe it or not, these leaves are unreal
They pose no threat, don’t you see?
They are just pictures on the human’s sheets?
What could they be?
They’re harmless, please listen to me!

There’s unrest in the household,
There’s trouble with the leaves,
For the humans won’t take it seriously,
And ignore Pucky’s pleas.
The problem with the Leaves,
(and they’re quite convinced they’re right,)
Are they like to lay where they fall,
And in Autumn they’re a beautiful sight,
But Pucky can’t help his feelings,
If he reacts the way he’s made,
He knows that the People,
Should be more afraid.
Now there’s no more leaf oppression
For they passed a noble law
And the leaves shall be subdued
By rake, broom, and claw

I thought leaves were only bad in scary tales
Meant for someone else but not Pucky
Leaves were out to get him
That’s the way it seemed
New sheets are hauntin’ all his dreams
With a growly face, he’s a de-leafer
Not a trace of leaf will be found
He’s a love ❤️
He’s a de-leafer, he couldn’t leave leaves if he tried
Said, he’s a de-leafer, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah (he’s a de-leafer)
Said, he’s a de-leafer, yeah (he’s a de-leafer)

Meanwhile, Back on the Nile
Thomios: Trevor-Hotep just sent word the pumpkin spice trees are ready for harvest.
Elvis-Anum: Oh nice. Now it’s the season for my least favorite coffee flavor.
Puckmosis: I’m ready to pick them. We can’t allow the spice (plural) to fall to the ground!
Beatrixia: What would happen if it did?
Elvis-Anum: Nobody knows. It’s too horrible to contemplate.
Enter Lupinium
Lupinium: Did someone say it’s harvest time?
Puckmosis: Yes. But be careful. We don’t want another accident like Troy.
Lupinium: Hey, Careful is my middle name.
Elvis-Anum: Should that be Careless?
