Come on, kids. You know very well there are no monsters, ghosts (of the unfriendly, non-feline type) or witches in the BPH . . . Elvis would have already eaten them, if Goldie hadn’t gotten them first!

(And if they tried to come in upstairs, Heaven help them when Tabitha spots them!)

    Meanwhile, Back on the Nile

    At the Palace Lounge

Beatrixia: I’ve found a treasure trove of spooky stories in the 808 section in the Very Good Library.

Lupinium: Ooh, I love a good scary story. Can we hear one?

Bea: I think we have time before dinner for one story. Here is a famous one: The Zoomie Apocalypse.

One day the Grand Vizier of an ancient country woke up from a long nap feeling refreshed and hungry.

“I think I’ll go to the Royal Kitchen and ask the Chef for a snack,” He said to himself.

Then he decided he was so hungry he would run to the kitchen instead of walking. As he ran, he found he enjoyed running to and fro, eventually ending up in the Artisans’ fabric room.

“Why did everything go dark?” he wondered. Meanwhile, the Royal Seamstress and the Royal Sculptress watched as their fabric went running through the hallway.

“Was that a ghost?” asked the Sculptress. “No,” the Seamstress replied, “That was a zoomie. We’ll have to catch it before it makes off with the fabric we worked so hard to make.”

So off they ran. Soon the all found themselves in the Royal Scribes’ office. With a massive poof, the scribe gave chase. Soon everyone in the palace was zooming, until they ended up in the Royal Dining Room

    Puckmosis: What happened then?

    Bea: You’ll find out.

    Thomios: Dinner is served!

    All: ZOOM!

My husband’s cat is really suffering, and she’s likely to pass away very soon. Please keep her in your thoughts to be comfortable and for the end to come quickly, to relieve her of the pain she must be feeling. I wish we could help her, but the vets in our small town are overwhelmed right now, and they sadly can’t fit her in.

We know from Calvin and Hobbes that monsters under the bed are scared of tigers, so Goldie should do the job. Hold tight to Pengo, Boy, and let her take care of it.

Hmmm. I had thought that Sesame Street reset the clock on the question of “monsters”, as the characters like the Cookie Monster are quite endearing. But I suppose just because “monsters under the bed” are an enduring cartoon trope doesn’t prove much. “The goofily ineffectual dad” is just such a trope and is generally recognized to be a stock character and not social commentary as such.

In panel 4, I notice that one of Goldie’s eyes appears darker than the other. Knowing Georgia’s penchant for detail, I am wondering if there is some significance to this or if it was just a coloring problem. Can’t think of what one eye darker than the other might mean, though? Anyone?

Girl cats – they get the job done. :) Love how Goldie is rolling up her sleeve. on the side – When the Queen of All She Surveys, She Rules the House with an Iron Paw would decide to go down to the basement (old house unfinished basement) I would open the basement door, announce to the Basement Monsters that She was coming down and then gently ask Her to be nice/play nice with the Monsters. I really miss that Little Girl Cat. :)

I’m more of a cat person than a kitten person. I used to say that sometimes having a kitten is what you have to go through to get a cat.

That said, Bea in per purple footy PJ’s and with those big front paws is the cutest thing ever and has me melting into a big puddle.

Good luck with that, Goldie. It’s probably one of those werezombie bunnies Geogia is in on the cover-up of.

SURE their sweet and cute little bunny rabbits that changed back to normal after they got out of the lab for good.. And the moon really is made out of cheese. They’re really evil bunnies the lab picked up at Watership Down and made even more vicious.

I receive newsletters (including comics) from Ian Jones, the creator of Bushy Tales, a strip that GoComics used to have, but dropped. I’m going to quote from it, but it’s late, so not many are going to see this. If some other earlier bird than I cared to re-post it early tomorrow then more will see it. Here’s what he said:

SAD NEWS FOR COMIC STRIP LOVERS

Sadly, on September 12th, News Corp (publisher of about 70% of Australia’s newspapers) dropped ALL the comic strips from ALL their papers. This has been a devastating blow, not just to those of us who have been published in any of the News Corp papers, but to the millions of readers who love turning to the comics for a bit of humour to help them through their day.

Thankfully, there are still some metropolitan and regional papers published by the Nine News Group as well as smaller independents that run comic strips.

I have also recently heard that a major newspaper chain in the USA (Lee Enterprises) has severely rationalized their comic strip line-up, cutting many of the regular strips from their 70+ papers.

Whilst newspaper publishers will cite these as being necessary “cost-cutting” actions, the truth is that they pay very little for comic strip content and they are taking away one of the best, and most-loved, parts of their product.

    It seems counter-productive to me.

    Here’s a little suggestion -

If your local newspaper has cut, or reduced, the comic strips, write to the editors and let them know of your disappointment at their decision.

It may not make a difference to what they have done, but at least it will let them know it has not been a popular move.

    (cont’d)
