I’m glad I’m not the man my wife married 51 years ago. That guy was foolish, impulsive and immature – and a lot of other things my wife liked in a man back then. Her tastes, fortunately, have changed as well.
Of course he isn’t. Wives want to “take the edges” of us husbands and remake us in how they believe they want us to be. Then, they are unhappy when we give up and conform to what they think they want.
Reminds me of the story of the old couple talking in their car, in which the lady says, “Herman, we’re just not as close as we used to be,” and Herman says, “Well, I’m still right here behind the steering wheel.”
