Trying to picture a cat hotel minibar: single serving liver treat packets, tiny bottles of the finest tuna nectar, catnip mice, cans of ham pate, and that weird box of chocolate-covered raisins nobody in their right mind would ever touch …
Makes sense, Puck and Goldie are the two who really know what it’s like to be outside and lost. Lupin may have been too young to remember the trauma he went through before he was found (short version, he was found with his siblings all alone and sick, the illness is suspected to be why he’s deaf). And while Elvis is clearly not entirely HAPPY about the extra cat situation, I doubt he’s going to complain overmuch. Grumble, sure, but he’s Elvis. That’s expected.
My dog is a cat magnet. We take him for a walk and stray cats just walk up to him. I now have 3 cats that he brought home (or rescued because of him). And there is a 4th that showed up this weekend. I am too young to be the “old cat lady.” But Frankie has other plans.
I hope they’ve already been to the V-E-T and that little boy kitty is back on his meds. I’m surprised little girl kitty isn’t trying to tear the door down.
I’m sure it’s for safety reasons, that they are being kept, in the office…for the safety of the lamps, glass ware, flat screen tv! They are just delaying hurricane Lupin, meeting tornado, Ora!
Pounce de Leon’s eyes’ are changing color. They were a milky blue. They are now a milky green with a goldish green coming in around the outside edges. They have learned to jump off the bed without looking like a flying squirrel. And they have learned to climb up the bed using their teeny tiny ice axes at the end of their paws. my furniture is suffering.
No one is asking Elvis or the others to be happy about it, just tolerant. It takes time for cats to adjust to each other.
Honor was always the calmest when it came to smelling other cats under the door. Open that door, though, and watch her bristle and hear her swear (growl & hiss). Nimitz, Bastet rest, would grouse at first, but quickly mellowed. Achilles never swore, but he sniffed Monroe often, and even groomed him. They’re working it out.
Having cats throughout my life and introducing new ones into the clowder from time to time, I have seen as many ways to do this as there are cats. Do what you feel is best and just be patient, after all, they are cats.
MrrrCavity and Holly have been sniffing noses, without swatting. MrrrCavity got into the room where we are keeping Holly, and she just followed him around, occasionally sniffing his butt, but no histrionics.
I went back to the beginning of this arc that started on August 11, and I have a question. The people were counting on the student loan forgiveness program to help make financing the house possible. Now that the program is on hold, will that affect the plan?
I also have a correction. I’ve been complaining that the addition was on the wrong side of the house because I kept thinking they were talking about the “new” addition, but I had it wrong. It’s the OLD addition. My apologies to Georgia for not paying close enough attention to details!
As fantastic as the past weeks have been, it pleases me to see our core cast again. They finally got out of the bedroom, and are back to reporting the news. I enjoy panel 4 and it reminds me of what Georgia said during the tarot card reveals: Elvis changes and learns, he admitted he was wrong about new cats after Tommy, and he is (perhaps reluctantly) living that out. Such a good Dad Cat!
My wife and I had two cats. When a stray came to the door, they ignored it. By the time we had four cats, they would all rush to the door, “No room. No room.”
Since then, I’ve always tried to have two cats. They say if you have one cat, it thinks it is a human with all the rights and privileges. If you have three or more cats, they view you as a particularly inept cat. With two cats, they maintain a sense of perspective. :)
Come to think of it, Lupin didn’t hear the pitiful yowling from the addition that kept everyone else from sleeping, so he might not realize just how much one of the kittens needed/needs help.
But Elvis did hear it, so he needs to be charitable.
I have to talk to my pack when a newbie comes in. I tell them they needed a good home too. Each of my pack was in desperate of a good home when they came to me and was the newbie at some point so give this newbie a break. I don’t know if it works or not but eventually everyone settles in to their place in the pack. The newest is a part time member (my mom’s Great Dane) stays 2-3 nights a week. Mom passed recently and he doesn’t like my dad. Soon he will be living with me full time (I hope for his sake).
Seems more an Elvis comment considering how many new kitties have come into his home to stay. But while Elvis is grumbling about the werewolf and the undead led astray by the werewolf, at least he’s not complaining the same way Lupin is.
I have a hard time deciding which one of these cats are my favorites. They are all so cute in their own personalities! At one time I did have four cats when I was with my ex-husband. In that clowder, there was only one that was my favorite, a Siamese-Manx mixed, that looked like a Siamese, but with a high rear end and no tail like a Manx. His name was Flint and so beautiful. I just wished I had pics of him. That was before cellphones and my disposable camera got destroyed before the pics were developed.

I love Elvis’s expression. Cats have their favorite humans, and they don’t want to share.

Meanwhile, Back on the Nile
Burt-Ra: I hear you come from a long line of shipwrights, Iggy.
Iggy: That’s right, Mr. Burt-Ra.
Burt-Ra: No need to be formal, son. Burt will do. I nerd a bit of carpentry work done and it sounds like you’re the cat to do it.
Iggy: Thanks, Burt. Even after my accident I know I can do whatever job you have for me.
Burt-Ra: Well, I need you and Wally to make some new Thwump proof shelves for Elvis-Anum.
At Elvis-Anum’s Office
Wally: You did a great job on these shelves, Iggy.
Iggy: How do we test them? I know Lupinium is in Afar at the tumbling competition.
THWUMP!
