Vocabulary is the major difference between current generations and those preceding. What used to be a rich and varied source for conversation and literature has become a stream of clichés and emojis that have about as much beauty and depth as a sidewalk puddle. And they last about as long.
And eventually, it’ll be nickel waiting on a dime…for you young people, those are coins that people could use to buy things like gumballs…you know, important stuff like that.
I’m sure there was an earlier time when Nelson said exactly the same thing — “Grampa’s making up his own words again!” — just because Earl said “newspaper.”

Pell Mell is sometimes spelled pall mall!

Every time I see “pell mell”, I think of those cigarettes, Pall Mall. Both my Dad and first husband smoked ’em. Yeah, and both are now dead.

“Tell us, in your own words, what happened.” If I use my OWN words, you won’t understand, so I’ll use the words everyone else does.

Not his made-up words, Nelson. Some of the greatest comedians of the 30’s and 40’d made those up.
