Fraud is the main crime here, according to what I take from Tracy. It’s a good thing that Sam has a pal who happens to be an expert on these things, but I guess that Tracy can’t know everything.
I want to revisit the Steelface story for one last time.
I honestly feel Mike missed a golden opportunity to set up a reoccurring plot development that could really be expanded over the years.
Let’s face it, Steelface is a throwaway villian who doesn’t need to ever make a reappearance.
Mike should have killed him “off screen”. He could have tried to attack Tracy when they went to arrest him, forcing them to use lethal force.
Sam, getting the call from Tracy would have to break the news to Robert.
Robert is now filled with conflicting emotions, especially a sense of guilt over rating out his uncle.
It’s no secret Sam admires Robert’s talent and desires to help him through this difficult situation.
Will Robert heal from these events and move forward or will his harden heart blame Tracy and turn him into a more violent criminal than his uncle ever was.
It would have been an interesting ongoing plot development in my opinion.
Back in 1979, my wife & I made a trip to California and Disneyland. They were just starting to sell off some of the original movie cells to the classics and we really pondered buying one from Snow White. But in 1979, $29 was a lot more than we had in the budget for souvenirs. Darn.
Point 1: I may need to check the legal definition of counterfeiting. If I attempt to pass a ten dollar bill made with a high resolution copier it is counterfeiting. If I strike a 1911 US silver 13¢ coin am I counterfeiting – since no such coin ever existed? Fraud yes, counterfeiting no (I think… Need to check legal definition. Which is not always the one you find in Webster’s or on-line dictionaries) These are cels of an animation that doesn’t exist.
Point 2: As I said yesterday, modern cel reproductions are made and marketed. I’m not sure we’ve seen a crime yet, other than possible copyright violations.
the big deal is celebrity signatures that unless you get it yourself ther’s no way to know if it’s good and most likely is a fake. It’s a reason to ask for them to write something special rather than jus a name when you get it.
[Owner of an original ARISTOCATS cel because someone I knew picked it up for free at Disneyland and felt like getting rid of it. It’s a mouse rolling a biscuit.]
Yesterday’s strip had me jumping for joy.ALways thought the little shrimp Dekko was Collins’ best villain by far.
He got away with murder for years because everybody thought of h im as a “harmless playboy”—-but he was heavily into narcotics dealing and enjoyed victimizing women(or worse).
Considering he tried to murder Lizz and opened fire on cops with a machine gun;I’m wondering what he’s doing out.If I had my way he’d never get out.
Always thought of him as a modern-day version of Stooge Viller—-sophisticated on the outside, rotten to t hecore on the inside. And an ego that should have its own Zip Code
Now let’s see if Curtis remembers just how much of a slimeball this man is.He doesn’t deserve soft-pedaling,
And he was introduced as an art t hief/forger/cat burglar—-so he’s returned to familiar ground.
EXPLANATION: The writers for A Charlie Brown Christmas wrote that for Snoopy to sing but stopped when they realized that he doesn’t talk. Amaze your Christmas Party friends with this trivia! You’re welcome.
Right on, as usual. It wouldn’t work because it’s too Gouldian, and that isn’t acceptable today as it is too close to normal life. Your ending would be a shock and acceptable, within reason, in those days, but today !!!! MMmmm
Today, ,Talking Detective Heads, who are actually explaining for us behind the Fourth Wall why the cel caper is a serious matter. And nobody is on the POI screen behind Tracy in panel 3. I suppose this suggests that the MCU isn’t yet alerted to Art Dekko’s devious activities in Tracyville right now. The Comics Game is a big-time operation for High Rollers: we aren’t talking “new comic books” (which, BTW, in my youthful buying days cost ten cents apiece) here….

As I mentioned on yesterday’s, not technically forgery. Copyright infringement and fraud, yeah.

Good morning™, fake cels get you real cells !
Is it me or is Sam getting more play now ? I bet Sam’s other pal works the evidence locker. ;-p
I bet Tracy’s disdain in P.2 reflects Mike’s feelings for the kind of work that gives honest purveyors of cel art a black eye.

Sam’s line in the last panel makes me wonder if this storyline will drift into NTF’s. (Something that had even less longevity than crypto currencies.)
