Looks like you made him brush his teeth but you didn’t make sure he did a good job of it.

Just show him some pictures and videos of people with their teeth missing. Don’t have any? Just Google Ohio.

You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink.

    She’s trying, dang it!

I suppose you could threaten to make the kid start helping to pay off the dentistry bill if he doesn’t get his dental health together. If he’s going to let his teeth rot, he can help foot the bill. And once he realizes just how BIG a bill that’d be, and how long that’d mean he’d have to go without an allowance until it’s paid off, especially considering his allowance is almost certainly not big enough to cover it anytime soon…

Additionally, I suppose he could just not like the taste of the toothpaste. I know I personally hate the taste of the standard minty toothpaste that’s so very common with toothpastes and generally prefer the far rarer but more appealing “fun” flavors of toothpaste, as that’s something I can actually stand to put in my mouth.

As a result, I’m nearly halfway into my thirties, yet am still buying kid’s toothpaste just for the bubblegum flavor, because that’s the only way I can get something that’s NOT that blasted nasty minty flavor.

Point is, that might be something worthwhile to try with Colin. Anything that could help incentivize him into actually brushing at this point, right?

For those parents who have this problem buy some Plaque Dental Disclosing Tablets and have your kids chew one then tell them to brush the purple off. They are inexpensive and on amazon.

Well see, lady, your problem is you didn’t start the nagging and monitoring soon enough. Keep on him starting right after today’s appointment – don’t wait until a week before the next appointment. No screen time for him unless the disclosing tablet discloses nothing!

Did anyone else wonder why the kids appear to be going to school on Sunday?

When I was kid, my family used a dentist that did not use pain killers of any kind.

Take my word for it… let the dentist fill Colin’s cavity without using a pain killer, and Colin will brush his teeth forever after.
