When I was in Kindergarten, our individual milk cartons were stored outside in cold weather. When I drank the milk too fast I got a headache. When I told my parents, they were at first scared I had a brain tumor. The reacher was a dear old woman, but you’d think she would have known from previous experience what was happening.
Brain freeze (AKA ice cream headache) is your brain preparing to temporarily shut down because it thinks you’re dying. In nature, the only time the inside of one’s mouth gets extremely cold is when they are succumbing to hypothermia. Your brain is trying to preserve itself in case you later escape the near fatal conditions.
Opal is right. Ride through it, over it, around it, but don’t let it run you. Isn’t always easy, but like the guy said, Life ain’t no easy gig. You gotta find your beat.
What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Except bears. Bears will definitely kill you.
(While we were going through a major software implementation at work, I put up a sign with this saying on it, and put a sticky note on the depicted bear with the name of the software product.)

It’s not the speed, it’s too much contact with the roof of your mouth that causes the “ice cream headaches”.

Many that survive a traumatic event end up maimed for the rest of their life, not stronger.

Opal’s comment third panel: I HATE that saying. It’s a sappy, thoughtless comment. It belittles the person who is struggling.
