Sounds a lot like the wonderful world of ADHD, where you can think up something utterly brilliant and forget what you thought up 3 seconds later. Arlo needs a small notebook to write that stuff down. It’s very handy in the work place.

When this happens to me I console myself by saying “If it’s important I’ll remember.”

I don’t think I have important thoughts these days. ;-(

Blame modern technology. I think of the perfect thing I always wanted to know, and then I forget what it is before I can look it up.

I worked with a construction foreman who would never use a calculator, he said if you don’t use it, you lose it. He was referring to his mental capabilities. He said your brain gets lazy if you don’t use it.

Check out today’s 9 Chickweed Lane. I believe Mr. Johnson draws ideas from his own life. He had a hell of a good run in the 80s and 90’s.

Like Arlo, I am having memory problems. For several weeks I kept saying I was going to take our three CPU’s out to the shop to blow out the dust with the air compressor. I finally thought of the solution, I put a note on mine that said BLOW ME! – Yeah, that worked.

Oldie Game Show, along the lines of “Name That Tune”:

[BZZ!] “I can forget that task in 10 seconds!”

[BZZ!] “I can forget that task in 5 seconds!”

[Ding! Ding! Ding!] “We have a winner!”

It’s like Mr. Rogers always said, “Tomorrow, tomorrow, I’ll remember it tomorrow,

When it’s tooo late! Ain’t that great?

Wake me tomorrow and ask me, boo-hoo!”

Or something like that. It’s been a minute.

I think I’ve finally figured it out. Day after day, every comic he writes. Jimmy Johnson has a spy-cam in my house.

Research showing that walking through a doorway can alter your thinking processes (as in, forget what you were going to do or say) has been proven in our house over and over again. I’m big on writing things down before leaving the room, or if hubby’s close enough, just calling out. That dang door is a thought eraser.

It’s usually some one called and left a message, and when they stop by, or a package shows up its oh yea that’s what I wanted to tell you.

I just call it “my senior moment”. 99% of the time I’ll remember after a couple of minutes. I find if I concentrate on it for too long, I am doomed not to remember it at all.

Makes me comfortable when the young ones I work with do this. People in their 20’s & 30’s. I always thank them for letting me know it isn’t always age related.

Not for me. I wandered up and down every aisle of CVS twice, trying to remember what I went in there for. That was yesterday, and I still don’t remember.

I change our bathroom hand towels twice a week and my kitchen towels 3 times a week. (We take shower towels from the closet when we take showers.) I kept forgetting if I had changed the towels or not. So now, upstairs I put the dark blue hand towels and dark blue towel for the top of the cart husband made and we use as counter on Mondays. On Thursdays I put out upstairs – the light blue hand towels or the yellow hand towels (on alternate weeks) with a light blue towel on the cart top. Downstairs I put out green towels on Mondays and either pink or ivory colored towels on Thursday. In the kitchen I put out a light beige towel on Monday, a medium beige beige towel on Wednesday, and blue/beige striped towel on Fridays. (Each kitchen towel change I also put out at random an older ripped towel for cleaning up messes.) Why do I follow this pattern? This way I know whether or not I changed the towels!

When I leave husband in our home office upstairs to make dinner in kitchen downstairs I write down what he says to make for dinner. Originally I was doing so, as he would often insist he said something else. Now I also do so as I will forget what he said to make by the time I get downstairs!

Timers in my cell phones (plural is correct) and in my computer calendar ring to remind me when I need to do things – such as go down and cook dinner, call my mom for our weekly phone call, etc. – or I forget to do things.
