One of the greatest books, On The Road, reads like he zipped it off in one sitting.

Shakespeare could certainly have procrastinated. He WAS a pro-fessional, after all. Perhaps by sharpening his quills, re-shelving his costumes or going out for a drink..

There’s a great episode of Upstart Crow on PBS where indeed Shakespeare and his sidekick muse try their best to isolate and avoid the plague. Laugh out loud funny.

That’s what I did wrong? I didn’t procrastinate enough?

He certainly didn’t hesitate to wish the plague on others:

“A plague o’ both your houses!” – - – Romeo and Juliet

He spent his days sharpening his quill pens, and getting some life experience. It probably took half a day to get dressed then. Unlike today, when we all go around in what is essentially underwear. Forsooth, thy flip flops announce your presence to my slovenly lounge. Dost thou feel the need for more Meade? Wait, that might be something…

How did he procrastinate? Chasing women. And very possibly chasing men too. that’s how Elizabethan men seem to have spent their time.

Procrastination – the game where the player believes he/she is actually avoiding the inevitable. Depression – when the inevitable happens.

Hamlet is just about the most famous procrastinator there is…

Writing was procrastinating from life.

Let’s see; I was 11 before my first taste of the Net. My usual means of procrastination were TV, Nintendo, LEGO, and other toys. I still have plenty of offline ways.

Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett were polar opposites in that regard. Death was the only thing that could keep Pratchett from writing books, whereas death gave Adams the perfect excuse never to write another…

The prolific Isaac Asimov (over 300 titles to his name, and I think to this day still the only writer with at least one book under all 10 major classifications of the Dewey Decimal System — to say nothing of his many works of fiction) always used to tell audiences at the sci-fi cons he attended that he could probably tell them to the minute when he’d be able to get back to writing again.
