“Sliver me splinters” is very timely for me right now. I had to have a sliver of a splinter surgically removed from my right foot on Wednesday, and I’m hobbling around like a dread parrot!
This is Mischief incarnate! She just has to be on top of David’s shoulders (mine, too, when she can get away with it). ❤ Our little pirate kitty ෆ╹ .̮ ╹ෆ
Ora Z is right to point out that Bluebeard wasn’t a pirate like Blackbeard. Bluebeard was a wife murderer in a folk tale who kept a room with the heads of his dead wives inside. The real-life murderer Henri Llandru was known as “The Modern Bluebeard”.
My father had a cat (small even when fully grown) that would sit on his shoulder while he played the piano. I don’t know if she thought of herself as a parrot, though.
After a little while, they followed this with one which started with the same pirate, but had the slogan “refreshes the parrots the other beers cannot reach”. And when the pirate drank the beer, his parrot turned into a bird of paradise.
And let us take a moment to appreciate how our ideas of pirates have been influenced by Stevenson’s “Treasure Island”. A book that starts with a map and creepy mysterious characters, goes on to adventures at sea, a tropical island, and buried treasure is the sort of thing we really want. (Wikipedia lists the dozens of films, plays, and adaptations that have been made, showing the stunning popularity of the book.)
Tedious tripe about memories from eating a cake dipped in tea, or “celebrations of the human spirit” just don’t have the same impact, even if the Sunday Times critics applaud them.
New season new Avatar, after 15+ years, besides the fresh-faced 38-year-old on the picture has gone a bit gray since then.It was time for a change, and the avatar is one of my most recent paintings I’ve lately become enamored with. Hope everyone has a great weekend! Monday arrives all too soon. Bleh!
Folks have a cat that likes to do this currently too. She’s getting a little big to keep doing it though, and unfortunately my mother has a bad back, so she can only put up with it for so long.
Lupin refers to OZ as “little cat.” Has anyone noticed if the older cats use Ora Zella’s or Iggy’s names when referring to them? The older ones call each other by name.
I went to a fundraiser for a pet rescue yesterday. I won a bucket raffle. I will attempt to put the picture and a video in the comments. Please don’t yell if it don’t work LOL
Albert A. Cat loved to ride on his Man’s shoulder, but he was 18 pounds and very long, so, even though his Man has broad shoulders, only his head and forepaws fit on the shoulder and the rest of him was carried.
today, I get the “small world” effect, as I “know” Matt Nelson through “Robot Co-Op”, a Twitch stream I watch that riffs on video games but originally started as a movie riffing homage to MST3K.
My girl Jez doesn’t mind being held, but being carried is a bit too much. She’s got four paws and they can get her where she needs to go just fine, thank you very much!
This is funny. Dad has a Blue and Gold Macaw named Blackbeard, because right under their beaks are black feathers resembling a beard. We just call him Blackie though. Although I can understand preferring to be a Macaw over a cat. Macaws can live to 80, cats well we know that sad story.
Brief facebook update from Georgia with pictures of the cats on her bed, “Visitors to my bedside this week. It’s been a quiet week with a lot of rest and a lot of cats. Puck did make an appearance or two, but mostly at the side of the bed. My hand is still quite tender; giving it a lot of rest for the moment.”
Ora Z, you have it all wrong. Polly would have to teach you a lesson, but he keeps blaming the crackers.
(Make the story short, I played a pirates themed computer game years ago and while playing I’d pretend to have a parrot named Polly singing his own versions of Margaritaville and Sailing just to amuse myself while playing the game)
Nummy liked to shoulder surf only in the kitchen. She loved to cook pasta, and was the best pasta tester to to tell if it was cooked. She liked all veges and luncheon meats, not to mention tuna juice.

Many years ago (I try not to think how many) Heineken ran a series of ads on the slogan “refreshes the parts other bees cannot reach”.
https://creative-ads.org/heineken-slogans/heineken-refreshes-the-parts-other-beers-cannot-reach-ad-3/
One ad changed the slogan:
https://brookstonbeerbulletin.com/beer-in-ads-2194-heineken-refreshes-pirates/
After a little while, they followed this with one which started with the same pirate, but had the slogan “refreshes the parrots the other beers cannot reach”. And when the pirate drank the beer, his parrot turned into a bird of paradise.

Ora Z: Yes, these are Fe-Anaro’s jewels. They are beautiful and indestructible. At least so far.
Puckmosis: I’m sure you’ll put that to the test. t
Beatrixia: These are the most beautiful treasures we’ve found. Maybe the Artisans can use them.
Elvis-Anum: Here are some gold coins.
Ora Z: And pieces of eight! Pieces of eight!
Violet-Ifa: We’ve found another Awile-Fixit trademark by this wall!
Iggy: Got it. Wally, want to do the honors?
Wally: Got a hammer right here.
SMASH!
Ora Z: I’ll help with the wall, too.

Elvis-Anum: I’m almost pleased!
Beaver Lee Cleary: It’s just as I pictured it!

And if that cute smol bird don’t fly (if that tiny bird don’t fly)
She’s gonna perch on some friendly guy (she’s gonna perch on some pirate guy)
And if that Man don’t sail the seas (and he doesn’t give her cookies)
She’s gonna surely bug her fav’rite Siamese (surely gonna scare this relaxed Siamese)
And that’s why I keep on tellin’ everybody, say
Yeah, yeah, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
Hear me now and understand (understand)
He’s gonna lose his peace of mind (ain’t gonna find no peace of mind)
And ‘cause that peace of mind won’t stay (and ‘cause that peace of mind won’t stay)
She’s gonna behave in a better way (she’ll try to behave in a better way)
She might rise above, she might go below
Ride with the tide and go with the flow
And that’s the reason why she’s a shoutin’ buccaneer, yo
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, baby, yar!
