Probably. The Ice Bowl has been kind of dangerous of late.

Do they have American football in Canada? I always believed that “football” there translated as “soccer” in the US.

From Lynn’s Comments: I once watched the end of a hockey game with Charles Schulz. We were in his den and he was in a bit of a grumpy mood. When the final shot was made, fans leaped from their seats screaming, “We’re number one! We’re number one!” He looked at me with a straight face and said, “That’s ridiculous. They didn’t do anything.”

I only ever went to one high school football game. My older sister took me. She was on the Pep Squad (kind of like cheerleaders) & was dating a football player. I remember being cold and bored. I’ve always hated football, but I would follow my sister into fire if she asked.

Went to a wrestling match with a friend. A professional one. Everyone was screaming but me. My friend asked me why wasn’t I screaming. The next day he found out!! Barely talk! He also thought the fake blood was real!!

Apparently Phil, of Marmaduke fame, is routing for the other team.

Hah! I played football when I was in high school(American style). Early on I would run with the rest of the guys, but I kept having to stop and throw up. I thought I was sick. I quickly learned that running and throwing up is normal. Kind of made the Marines just a little bit easier.

I’ve never wondered, (until now), whether Canada plays American Football. I kinda thought they would follow the Europeans with soccer. I obviously know zilch about Canada.

This would suggest that American style football [as opposed to soccer which most of the world calls football] is very popular in Canadian high schools. This aroused my curiosity so I googled it with mixed results. One source quoted back in 2013 that there were over 900 high schools that played the sport while numerous other sources said it was not popular at all in Canada. TheSporting.blog listed football as only the 6th most popular sport in Canada behind hockey, golf, CURLING, basketball and rugby.

So the question remains, is football as passionately embraced in Canadian high schools as it is in the U.S.A.?

It’s almost funny, how close to home this hit… I didn’t play, or even watch sports (still don’t watch them), and in my 4 years of high school, only went to one football game. I think I went, and cheered, hoping to maybe make friends (another story), and the next day, I was hoarse. To add insult, to injury, I think we lost, and I lost my voice, and still didn’t have any friends.Good thing I like me, so I always have at least one! smirk

I only root for 2 teams: Detroit Tigers and Red Wings. That’s it. Although, considering their track records for the last 20 years, it’s embarrassing.
