Historically football began with the players wearing little more than what was worn by rugby players (well, duh). As uniforms developed to provide better protection it also made it possible for some more vicious tactics to evolve. (I.e. if your head was better protected in a better helmet you were more willing to use your head as a weapon and slam it into another player.) Rule modifications may be more important than technology in football now being safer than it was in earlier eras.
The safer they have made the equipment the harder the players have hit as they feel indestructible and therefore have more injuries instead of less. They should study using less padding and see the results.
Why can’t there be a helmet that connects to the shoulder pads in an impact? That way the shoulders could take the impact, and the blow to the head would be lessened…
“Pardon me, may I bump you out of the way? I wish to score.” “Nay, my fine friend, I must attempt to prevent you.” “Alas, I shall attempt to run around you, then. Beware, for I am determined, and I do not wish to tread on your toe.”
The uniforms will be so sophisticated that they won’t even need players inside in order to play the game. Everything will be done remotely from home while in your underwear, or less, depending on how frisky the wife is.
No team can make up its uniforms without them complying with league rules. Until the league changes its rules those ideas are staying on the drawing board

They DID think of it. Just nobody knew how to make it then and technology wasn’t up to the task yet.

She hasn’t mentioned the jet pack and the targeting system for the ball launcher.

“They will feel like they are playing in bubble wrap” Does that mean that eventually that they’ll be able to pop them once they’re through with them?

I see this degrading into a Saturday Night Live skit, players bumping into each other and bouncing off.

You won’t be able to tell them from the robots that are playing on the opposing team.

All the NFL teams have the same type of helmets and uniforms. One team is not going to have a safer helmet. Then all the teams would get it.

I can’t imagine playing football in bubble wrap – particularly in Hawaii – would be very pleasant.

An opposing team might find something sharp to pop that bubble wrap.

Was thinking about a “Six Million Dollar Man” reference, then remembered what the Brown’s are paying quarterbacks.
