Reminds me of that scene in “Ed Wood” when the movie maker stole a fake fighting octopus from a competing studio but forgot the motor. He told his actor to, “Go in there and jiggle him around a bit.”

There is one low budget Tarzan show in which the hero fought a “lion”. It was actually a cougar.
