Boo! That joke was terrible! I want my money back!

There’s a lot of phrases to describe different styles of humor that don’t seem to have consistent definitions.

“Explaining a joke is like dissecting a frog. You understand it better but the frog dies in the process.”

Irony: kinda, sorta like iron

You keep using that word. I do not think that word means what you think it means

Corn-splaining.

Is this some sort of “unisplaining?”

One of three things has jusf happened:

1. Marigold cast another forgetting spell on herself

2. Marigold is in such an insecure mood that she is praising herself.

3. Marigold just wants to praise herself.

And here I thought that “irony” meant that an alloy contained a lot of ferrous metal.

Time to get out the irony bored.

Joker: “IF YOU HAVE TO EXPLAIN A JOKE, THERE IS NO JOKE!!!”

Sarcasm.

Phoebe, the next Alanis Morrissette.

It’s ironic how often people misuse that word.

Phoebe isn’t sure what “irony” means? How ironic.

“Is it not ironic? Do you not think?”

A science fiction author named Spider Robinson wrote a story around the idea that someone who commits irony is an iron, therefore “God is an Iron” (the name of the story).

Marigold can be so annoying.

Irony is an “intellectual” joke. If you think about it, you can understand why it’s funny. By that point, however, it is no longer funny enough to make you laugh. Rather like this explanation.
